anybody developed a good stategy yet?

i get to the mid game & have to endure constant revolts. even when i reduce the tax levels to very low i need several units to keep the peace??

so how do you keep the revolts under control??

i think my mistake is not dropping the provincial titles on my various generals.

what effect does killing everbody have after a battle ? increases your dread rating so what? i wonder if there is a link to revolts?

are the farming incomes constant? if they are then castile & flanders seem to be the best.

any ideas what the best construction route is? i didn't bother doing too much as conqering provinces seem to generate lots of cash & prebuilt places.

war soon.

Okay, here was my tactic for Medieval. First of all, just sit there, farming, having sons and daughters. When people offer treaties accept, become friends with everyone. Your money will build up, and so you create giant armies. Conquer the Scottish and Welsh with relative ease, you could always bribe them. On another note, you might find out that the sons your King gives birth to make very good generals, so make them the general of each group.
Right, when you think the time is right and your army is big enough, AND everybody else is at war with eachother, ATTACK THE FRENCH!! Your armies will crush them or make them run away, and bit by bit try and get as much as France without invading anyone but the French. Then move south and get some of Spain, and attack the lower down groups, the really bad ones. Then, protect your spanish borders and move up again and kill those tnucs (usually the Germans) with the rest of Frace. Then leave your French borders defended by vast amounts of troops and get back to Spain. Crush Spain with ease and you have Britain, Spain and France. Still leaving your French and Spanish borders defended, go after Africa, should be easy. You should find that you're rolling in money because you are getting so much land so quickly, and you should be able to build enough troops. The Prince's make great General's, and most of the time you might prefer to resolve the battle automatically.
Leave troops on the African border and move for Italy, sending troops from France and Africa. They should surrender quick. Move up more and get countries like Germany and Poland, then Western and cetral Europe and Africa are yours. If you wish for mroe advice, just shout.

I *think* your problem with loyalty may be due to religion. Check out the territory, and see what percentage are the same religion as your nation. If it's low, that's your problem. Buy churches and things if you need to. Also, granting the land titles to people with high dread will boost the loyalty of the province.

On my current game, on the second hardest difficulty, I'm playing as Poland (categorised as 'hard' nation to win with)

I'm only in 1150, but I control a huge chunk of northeast Europe, and have an income somewhere over 7k per year. I'm the richest nation, so it keeps telling me.

I'm not sure how good that is, but I can tell you my strategy:

First, capture any nearby rebel territories you can, and build as many troops as you can (not peasants though, they are a waste of time). Don't declare war on a nation too early unless you have to. Especially if they have the same religion as you.

Give the title of a territory to someone with acumen of at least four, so you get a decent income, and go for min 40% farming everywhere with max taxes. Add tradehouses if you have tradeable goods.

Once you've got around four or five territories (or if you start with that many), I find it helps to specialise them. Use one for cavalry, one for missile troops, and two for infantry. Take a look at the tech tree to see what the best type of unit you can get in each category is. Royal knights for Cavalry, etc. Also get armourers as soon as possible. I'm not sure how much of a bonus the armour upgrade gives your troops, but the even the advanced armouries are so cheap that it has to be worth doing.

As you get more territories and a huge income, you can set up a few more to produce armies, or crusades and other things.
