Now imagine a game where you took control of this...
I think there is a real future in music simulation combined with the ability to combine your tunes with an on stage act. I recently went to a concert in Docklands, London, to see Korn, and i can tell you it always beats listening to their music from a stereo if you go to a live performance. The atmosphere was amazing, moshing kicked a** and the music just killed away the dullness of the 95% hated puddle of mudd.
I really think there should be a game, a sim type game, possibly like Rollercoaster Tycoon, where you are the managing director of a small venue where bands come to play, and your aim is to set the stage, lights and cameras to please not only the crowd, your managers, and the band, but even yourself. Like a simulation game, you would have a budget, and you would start off with one band playing at your venue. Next you would have to spend your money, accordingly, on advertising, equipment, drinks, lighting and stalls. (Sounds similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon eh?)
Just like any sim game, you would place the stage/s, put lights up, selecting what colour, or advanced lighting like changing colours, size and quality of speakers, seats or none for a standing concert, hire crowd control, special effects like glitter and smoke, and also drinks, food and souvenir stalls. All depending on your budget.
Now as people poor in through the doors on play day, you sit back and watch the atmosphere incline, make sure the band is all ready, sound checks have been done, or have you forgotten that out from your budget?..
Now heres the difference from progressing and losing: Once your warm up acts have gone, and the main band is playing, you have to keep your crowd pleased and the band. This would be done by clicking on certain selectable crowd memebers, as 7000 is too much to handle, and these people account for say 100 people each. You would have to make sure there thirst isnt major, otherwise saftey could be at risk, to make sure there not to hot or cold, adjusting ventilation accordingly, to make sure the speakers arent to loud or quiet etc Also you could have a little window allowing you to direct the concert, like what and when special effects should be used, and the lighting sequence...
So the concert is over, people have left, and on there way out they tell you if the concert was good or bad. If you get more than a certain percentage of good marks, then you get a bonus, and some profit from all the merchadise they will buy, allowing you to plan the next concert. Also if the main band was pleased they will come back again next time for less money, allowing you to let your profits rise.
The aims for different levels would be different like having to reach a certain profit point, or crowd size or popularity, and as you progress, the venues would get bigger and better, and so would the bands and music. Just like Rollercoaster Tycoon, which is why i reckon this would be a great game.
Even after the concert, you would be able to play back the permance on the cameras you placed, allowing you to watch your creation being played, without having to adjust anything. Eventually you would end up playing the last level, depending on which country you started in, the best stadium like wembley, or you could even go global and try to concour the would with your stage madness...
You could also go through time periods, so one minute you could be watching Jimi Hendrix wack it out, and then be watching Guns n Roses and then even my lastist conert, Korn. the possibilitys are endless for this type of game, even online play. Also if you had your own song you could put it the game and design your band and watch them play it out live, even with your face on the band leader and posters, which for some people is there greatist dream. As for a name i would say Stage Madness or Music Tycoon would be good, as for other ideas, please post some, as you never know when a game producer might wonder through these forums looking for ideas.
