Mario Sunshine US sales mentalism
Punters just can't get enough of Mazza as Sunshine shifts 350,000 copies in a mere 10 days. Strewth!
This just in from our No Surprise There desk: Super Mario Sunshine has shifted a whopping number of copies in the US, with 350,000 games sold in only 10 days.
As Nintendo pointed out with no small amount of glee, this is a number not achieved by any competitors - including Halo and Grand Theft Auto 3 - until being on sale for a month or more.
The game's popularity has also helped to boost hardware sales as many people went out to buy a Cube specifically to play the long-awaited Mario 64 sequel. Many retailers reported a 50% increase in Gamecube sales, with some even saying that sales of the console had more than doubled.
"This launch is historic, promising to break longstanding records," says Peter MacDougall, Nintendo America's executive vice president of sales and marketing.
"So far, sales rates for Super Mario Sunshine are running 36 percent ahead of even Super Mario 64 six years ago -and that game went on to sell more than 10 million units worldwide."
Mario Sunshine will finally be released in the UK on 4 October.
