Today I got a letter through the post off Nominet.uk telling me to fill this form in and send it in so your domain name is secure.
Signed up for my name with getdotted a few months back now (April i think) and have always been using my address so what is going on here?

It is. Nominet are just the organisation that keeps the records. They always take ages to send you certificates for any domains you register.
