Police have launched a major initiatuve this week, as more and more criminals are entering the Gameaday web site and posting untrue rumours and breaking numerous copyright laws against the big videogames developers and publishers. Calling these false statements and pieces of information "spoofs", these criminals have blatant disregard for the well-being and financial security of the videogames companies, and even some of the biggest developers have had to cut back on their manufacturing as a result.
Service Games, known widely around the world as SEGA, were once one of the leading manufacturers in home entertainment consoles and videogames... but the sudden outbreak of spoofs on the Internet proved to be too much for SEGA's finances to handle, and the company has now had to cease all manufacturing of consoles in the forseeable future, and focus all of it's efforts and resources on the development of games alone. I was lucky enough to get an exclusive, though brief, interview with Yuji Naka.
(Interview with Yuji Naka)
Hugh - "So this has been quite a shock to SEGA, hasn't it?"
Yuji - "Yes, it has indeed. It came as a massive blow to us when we discovered that the invasion of spoofs on the Gameaday website had in fact cost us millions of yen because people were taking too much notice of these spoofs and ignoring our fine products."
Hugh - "What effect do you think these spoofs will have on the videogames industry in the long run?"
Yuji - "Well who knows? I just hope that they don't demolish the industry completely, because tens of thousands of jobs all over the globe would surely be lost."
Hugh - "What do you think can be done about it?"
Yuji - "How the hell should I know?! Leave me alone! Stupid!"
And in light of this bisaster, I have been roaming Fishguard - the town that has surely suffered most from the outbreak of spoofs on the Internet - and been asking people what they think of the situation.
(Interview with Old Lady)
Hugh - "What do you think of these spoofs?"
Old Lady - "I think they're absolutely disgusting."
Hugh - "But let me ask you... do you yourself ever let loose a spoof?"
Old Lady - "Yes, I do."
(Interview with a different Old Lady)
Hugh - "What do you think of these spoofs?"
Old Lady - "Well is they decent, is they decent? Are they decent? You tell me, 'cos I don't thick it is!"
Hugh - "What do you think they should do about it?"
Old Lady - "Ban it!"
Hugh -
Earlier today, I also spoke to local Fishguard resident Mrs Hideous, who had her house completely demolished when a barrage of spoofs literally flew into her home through the telephone wires!
(Interview with Mrs Hideous)
Hugh - "Mrs Hideous, what have the National Obliteration and Bombing of Spoofs (NOBS) said about the spoof dilemma?"
Mrs Hideous - "Sorry. I had a letter from 'em this morning saying they're sorry."
Hugh - "What's your opinion of the situation?"
Mrs Hideous - "Well you should go upstairs, see upstairs. It's wicked up there!"
I beclined to go upstairs with Mrs Hideous...
This is Hugh Pugh, talking to you.... from Fishguard.
