Is there an easy way to do that line-y effect on images that makes them look like a command and conquer-era FMV video... without having to do it laboriously by hand?

On photoshop particularly if you know

Thanks

was that supposed to be a pun? :)
If you want to fade it more around the edges then before you fill your image with the pattern use the rubber stamp on it to make the effect you want.

The Gimp is a great program and although it looks Linuxy it's still worth a look and it's free! so if you don't have Photoshop *cries* then it's worth your time.

That's along the right lines.. it'll do for now thanks :-)

As for the gimp, it seems very Linux-y, and I don't know how well it'll work on my computer. Besides I like PS, and line-y patterns aside I can do most stuff on it.

you mean the lines? I really can't remeber Command & Conquor.

if you mean the lines just make a 2x1px image (for line-y) make 1px black, 1px white marquee the whole thing and go (I think): edit>define pattern then go to the image you want the effect on and marquee it all then go: edit>fill>pattern and change the optimacy to 20% or whatever you like.

I'm guessing this is wrong.

Pee-easy on the GIMP, just use the filter. Not sure about PS.
