So I applied and was supposed to go to the interview today. It said to take my record of achievement (I'm sure most of you have them. Except no-one ever put stuff in so most are very empty, including mine) and all my grades so far, and anything I thought would help. So I spent ages finishing the script I'd been working on, and did some story boards for it. Spent ages researching all the terminology of film etc, like buzz tracks, dollies etc, and I put some cutscenes I'd made for a game on a CD, so I could show my directors skill (if any)
Had to get up at 8 in the bloomin' morning (I'm used to getting up at 2pm) had an hour to get ready, then had to leave just after 9 so I could get there before 10. My dad took me (since I'm too lazy to learn to drive) and he said he'd wait in the carpark for me, as I thought it would be a quick interview, then they'd tell you if you were in or not, then tell you about the course for a bit, then that'd be it.
So I waited in reception for a bit, sat with some other people who were waiting. They were saying how they only had their record of achievement with them, so I felt pretty smug (Stryke mode) knowing I actually had media related stuff with me. This guy who looked like Ted Raimi (from Xena, he's Sam Raimi of Evil Dead fame's brother) came in and six of us went with him. We sat in a room and he told us about the course, then he gave us a detailed tour of the building (it's a big art and design place, with fashion, music, photography etc classes there too) He showed us the editing stuff, some cameras and stuff like that. Then we went back to the room we were in before (a late kid joined us) and he went through our application forms, talking to each person as he read their stuff, asking what they wanted to do etc. I was sat next to him as he went through, so I could see everyone's grades. Some kids had already done media, others had GCSEs, I had GCSEs and A levels and one kid didn't have any GCSEs at all. Yet the guy said he would accept us all. So much for needing all these art grades and a portfolio of stuff to show! I wasted bloomin' hours working on stuff to take in
So then we had to enrol, damn did it take ages! There was 7 of us, with new kids arriving to enrol in other courses who kept jumping ahead of us. I'd already enrolled at the main college site, so I had my student ID so I got done a bit quicker. I didn't get out of the building till 12pm. What I thought would've taken 15 minutes took two bloomin' hours. My dad was still waiting for me in the car park, he'd gone off to buy some tabs then come back. If he'd left, I would've been stranded because I didn't know where the hell I was, since the building is in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway, trouble with this course is that it's Monday through Friday, 9 to 4 (at the earliest) which causes some problems. I've already enrolled in business studies A level and maths GCSE, which are on Monday and Wednesday. I think he mentioned something about getting Wednesday afternoons off, but I could have misheard him. So there's a chance I might still be able to do maths, but it's unlikely. Also, since I thought the course would be once a week like b.studies and maths, I thought I could do the three weeks training I need for this job I've got on my days off, but now I'm in every day, so I can't. I can do the actual job, from 5 to 8pm, but I can't do the training as it's during the day. I'll have to phone and see what they say. There's also the problem of getting to the building and then home again every day. I'll have to get the metro to town, then get a bus to the building, but I don't know what bus or what times exactly. I saw a timetable and it had some obscure times, meaning I'd have to set off dead early (before 8) to get down there and catch one, then get there and have to wait about 20 minutes before my lessons actually started. Evil in it's purist that is.
Maybe I should learn to drive...
Anyway, it's a two year course, should be interesting, making films and stuff.
Hmm, my friend Joanne won't be best pleased, she was doing business and maths with me, and looking forward to sitting with someone she knew... Ah well, I can still travel on the metro with her. That reminds me, she wanted me to text her to let her know if I got in or not...

The bus home from college leaves every hour at 20 past the hour. Now most of my classes finish at either 3:15 or 5:20 leaving me little time and no time at all to get to the bus stop! Wahhh!
I may just ask to be excused early every single time. :)
Oh and get this, I have some lessons at 9 in the morning then have a looooooong wait until the afternoon before my next one and it's not worth paying bus fayre all the way home only to come back again, gah. Stupid college.
Glad you got onto the course all the same, you never really do need to prove much to enroll at college, I didn't even take my ROA when enrolling (like I've filled it all in anyway) still you're at where you need to be so that's good. :)
