...the selection of tracks on the Manic Street Preachers Greatest Hits Album: "Forever Delayed"?

[So not much for non Manics fans in this thread. Don't say I didn't warn you]

There are 20 tracks, 2 of which are new tarcks recorded this year. The listing is as follows:

1. A DESIGN FOR LIFE
2. MOTORCYCLE EMPTINESS
3. IF YOU TOLERATE THIS YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE NEXT
4. LA TRISTESSE DURERA (SCREAM TO A SIGH)
5. THERE BY THE GRACE OF GOD
6. YOU LOVE US
7. AUSTRALIA
8. YOU STOLE THE SUN FROM MY HEART
9. KEVIN CARTER
10. TSUNAMI
11. THE MASSES AGAINST THE CLASSES
12. FROM DESPAIR TO WHERE
13. DOOR TO THE RIVER
14. EVERYTHING MUST GO
15. FASTER
16. LITTLE BABY NOTHING
17. THEME FROM M*A*S*H (SUICIDE IS PAINLESS)
18. SO WHY SO SAD
19. THE EVERLASTING
20. MOTOWN JUNK

It's not a bad selection, with most of the obvious choices, (like Motorcycle Emptiness, Masses Against The Classes, etc) but there are a fair few tracks I think it's a crime not to include. Personally, I'd get rid of 'So Why So Sad', 'From Despair to where', 'Motown Junk', and maybe a couple others. I'd probably replace them with some of the following:

Another Invented Disease
If White America Told The Truth For One Day It's World Would Fall
Apart
Yourself
SleepFlower
Die In The Summertime

As it stands, the album is a little unbalanced in favour of the more recent songs. While that's okay, you're missing out on a little of the variety if you don't include some of the more agressive sounding tracks, like 'Damn Dog' or 'Crash n' Burn'.

Well, I'm off to go submit a few more entries to win tickets for the greatest hits tour...

Who'd have though Manics fans could have such differing tastes, eh?

Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky is more of a backgournd track in my opinion. Fine to have on while I'm doing something (much like a lot of Radiohead in that sense), but I wouldn't actively listen to it, if you follow me. It doesn't inspire me to think 'Yes, I love this song'

I'm intruiged now... which tracks (if any) would either of you not put on the album?

Small Black Flowers That Grow in The Sky is a great song

Excellent at Millenium gig... which reminds me... what band were you in that supported Manics Craw?

Still think they should do my idea below

Artwork rules

Hope sleeve is good

How can you not like Small Black Flowers That Grow in the Sky?

I guess you're entitled to your opinion I thought it was one of the stand out moments on EMG.

They should have put This is Yesterday on the record. Not cos it was a hit, but cos I like it.

Reckon they've got time to change the tracklisting?

As for the rest, its what I expected (I already knew heh heh)..

Will I buy it? Hmmm dunno I like the artwork so maybe just for that.

Tsunami's good, but then I love virtually all their songs, so something has to give.

There are only a few songs I definitely wouldn't include..

Ocean Spray
Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky

Hmmm. I think that's all actually... :)

Yeah I know I post regularly there... bought tickets on first day... like third person to do voting thing :)

I love Tsunami though :D

What they should have done:

CD1 - Best of first three albums (plus motown junk and sucide is painless)

CD2 - Best of last three albums (plus new tracks and masses)

CD3 - B-sides and rare tracks

But of course they just want to make a quick tenner with that

Argh, I got the title for one of their tracks wrong. I shall die in shame...

Agree with you on The Everlasting, by the way.

Also, there's a poll been running for uite a while now on their site for the songs people want played on the tour. I'm not sure if that had any imfluence on the track selection, but it would explain why the tracks chosen are a little more passive and commercial, as you've pointed out.

(also, replace Tsunami with Crucifix Kiss)

The album is really aimed at passive fans... thats why most of songs are from more commercial albums... like Everything Must Go and This is my Truth etc.

It's not my personal selection... but I have all albums and made up my own mini-disc.

Motown Junk is an absolute classic so there... although I would make A Design For Life closing track and Motown junk opening.

Everylasting shouldn't be there... they even said they hated it.

Although it is " Greatest Hits " and more popular songs are in it.

Roses in the Hospital should be on it... since album is named after lyrics in it and the song rocks.

Only one from The Holy Bible is a crime really... Revol, If White America... or PCP should be there as well.

You can hear new tracks at www.manics.net... I like them... they grow on you.

Although I don't think two of new tracks should be on it... maybe one as that is the norm these days.

And it's " Slash n Burn " not " Crash n Burn " :D

Errr best of would have been better.

Also So Why So Sad is sucky... any other single from Know Your Enemy would be better... Ocean Spray even.

Buy tickets to see them in December... probably no chance of winning on site.

Glad to see your a Manics fan Venom :D

Especially earlier stuff

The set they played at v2002 is more or less the same as that, with a few exceptions. It was amazing then and the album will be amazing.

Octobter 26th is the day it's out (I think), mark it on your calenders.
