Anyway on the second day all the people were in the pool having fun except for Tom the nine year old. To me this was extremly sad and i thought how terrible his life must be. This is when it got me thinking on a few things. Now i knew he coundn't hear me pretty much and i knew he couldn't speech to me. So with this information i started thinking of any game i could play with him to make him a little happier. Yes i am that kind of person.
Well as i love gaming, i thought why not show him my gba. I didn't expect him to be able to play so i decided i would play and he could look at the screen. After about 30 mins of this i he started to start to tap me on my arm. He wanted to try and have a go. After a few attempts on ho to hold it and what the buttons were(showed him by pointing at screen and button so he could see what would happen if you pressed the button)he was playing f1 racing and doing not half bad.
This was a great feeling when he started to play as when he did he started to smile. This is when i knew the games industry had done somthing that was better than good. They had made something that a 9 year old disabled could enjoy and make him happy.
For the next 2 weeks he played through most of my games and understood them. This made the holiday way more enjoyable as we all had something to do. His parents were alot more happier knowing he was enjoying himself. On the last day i knew it was going to be a little difficult saying can i have my gba back as it had made him see new light. In the end i decided he could keep it!! But with only one game as i am going to buy one again.
His parents were astounded at my generosity(so was i). But i knew how much this could change his life. Intead of sitting around in his wheelchair he could actually play something that kids his age enjoy as well. To me i saw this as a bit of a life changer as he would always have something to turn to.
To me i think the games industry should try and build some sort of handheld or games for the disabled. Any ideas anyone? So now i know and you should know there is more to the gaming industry than just fun for the non disabled.
Now for the best news my parents are going to buy me a new gba as they were so pleased at what i had done!!
Thanks for reading and remember the next time you see a person like tom in the streets or anywhere remember they are human to.
