Firstly, im not talking about specific cases but in general terms, Fanboys generally tend lack to a certain extent some social skills, and don’t have many friends. To fill this void, they latch onto something usually in pop culture (Movies, Games, arts etc) and simply go overboard with it. This produces the question. Is there anything wrong with this? Hmm in my opinion not really, but I just don’t see the point in staying in my room all day and putting my magic cards in alphabetical order.
Secondly, I think that to a certain extent money has a lot to do with Fanboys being the way they are. Because the average kid can’t afford all 3 consoles and should consider themselves lucky if they have 2. As a result of this they persist in telling us how great there console is compared to ours.
Maybe its just plain conceit? You know the types who love hearing themselves. The arrogant ones who think they’re always right. They even seem to be so stuck on their own image that when someone opposes them they combat it with mindless banter. In fact Fanboys are likely to be the ones who pick on others for the way they dress. Youth is part of this. I’m sure you’ll find on the forums that the ages of the fanboys who post they’re views on here are normally in the age range of 10-15. Then they suddenly decide to grow up, (as Edgy did).
But I think that the key factor to why a fanboy is like he is is because of peer pressure. I remember when I was preparing to buy a ps2 my Ninty mates all branded me a loser for making this choice. Now this didn’t affect what I had in my mind to buy, but I can assure you that it would affect others. To add to this I think that it’s when they make a purchase, unsure whether they have made the right choice of console; they choose to defend it and seemingly want to convince themselves that their console is the greatest.
But nowadays we have difficulty distinguishing the difference between a bit of fun and a fanboy. Come on, we all have to admit we’ve had a pop at the Xbox now and again. For example, I own a ps2, and have played a lot on each of the other 2 consoles. I respect Nintendo and Sony for different reasons, and as much as I don’t like to admit it I do occasionally insult the Xbox (don’t we all). But I do have to say that it does have a good selection of respectable games (I.E Halo, Project Gotham Racing etc). Now this is the line of difference. Im not a fanboy because I don’t persist in insulting other machines. I do occasionally, but certainly not to the level and the extreme that some people we see on these forums do.
But what can we do? Nothing I guess. Perhaps just ignore the problem because, in the long run these kids will iron there views out , but for as long as games companies continue to churn out all these classic titles, the problem will persist. Or is it a problem? What do *you* think about the whole fanboy palaver? Were you once a fanboy yourself? I’d love to hear your views.

Quinty.
Thanks for the reply anyway.
Three or four years later, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released. I still wanted the original NES (which was still selling in the catalogues). I would keep pointing them out in the Woolworths and Boots stores in Exeter every time we went into town, and they wouldn't take a blind bit of notice. Infact the closest I got to playing Super Mario Bros 3 was the very simple (though admittedly fun) Super Mario Bros 3 watch game.
So not only had I been deprived of modern gaming for many years, but I had to put up with the joy and disappointment of my brother getting a Nintendo console the first time he asked for one! The Game Boy. It was brilliant that I had an oppotunity to play Nintendo games for the first time without being restricted to the short periods of time I'd spend at my friend's houses. Around three years later, my brother got a Super Nintendo for Christmas! A couple years later he got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas! so I was finally able to play Nintendo games on a TV system, rendering the ZX Spectrum obsolete.
This meant that although I didn't have any home consoles (other than a ZX Spectrum - but they were classed as PCs anyway), I was able to enjoy the delights of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and many more classics in 8-bit (Super Game Boy), 16-bit and even (supposedly) 64-bit! I was so excited, though disappointed at the same time, and I enjoyed practically every minute of gaming on these systems.
So having been deprived of modern gaming for so long, I had the attitude of a ten year old (in terms of gaming) despite being 14/15. I started reading the official Nintendo magazine, and ended up copying the style of writing the magazine would be written in, in an attempt to win this Gameaday competition. I thought that because the magazine writes like this, then it must be cool!
It didn't take me long to realise that typing that way wasn't going to get me anywhere, seeing as the majority of the time I was being laughed at and had all sorts of comments fired back at me. It was then that my attitude to gaming caught up with my general level of maturity and I started to consider that other people might be enjoying consoles such as the SEGA Saturn, the Sony Playstation and anything else they may have, just as much as I was enjoying the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64.
The majority of you know the rest - I carried on being a Nintendo fan though understanding the viewpoints of others. I bought a Dreamcast, which was quite a big step being a SEGA console. Then I bought a GameCube. And the rest is...well that's well we'll have to wait and see...
