But whats next? Will gaming fans be forever faced with sequels? The same types of games over and over again? Satoru Iwata, NCL president recently stated
'We cant be optimistic about the game market. No matter what great product you come up with, people get bored.'
' The effort to produce machines with better technology has reached its limit'
'If things continue, they may lead to the decline of the entire industry'
I think what he is saying is bang on the money. We can have the most mind-blowing graphics imaginable on a game, but if the gameplay is cack, whats the point in that? DOA3 is an example of this.
Game producers are finding it harder and harder to make more original games, and that is why it is a good idea to produce the new style Zelda and games like Pikmin and Animal Crossing. Gamers are wanting more and more from their games, but developers are struggling to find inspriation.
So what do you think is next? We cannot advance much further with our consoles without moving away from the actual gaming part of it. What sort of games can we expect for the future? Will we get endless final fantasy and tetris sequels? Reruns of old games forever like pong and defender? Or will we have to suffer the same genres over and over again for the next few years?
BUT FOR NOW LETS JUST ENJOY GREAT GAMES!
Probably the most original game to be released this year is "BLiNX: The Time Sweeper"
The graphics are your typical Mario stuff, but the time-control gameplay sounds amazingly original.
