Among many wishes for games among this forum, I've got one concept which I dearly hope makes it to the game industry. There have been plenty of crazy ideas surface in Japan, and along with dating and Mosquito games, there have been hundreds of other crazy concepts. Heck, even Snuggly's wishes of a Fireman game have been fulfilled. So, this is what I want to see in a game, a concept of craziness but also a very valid one which I'm sure would make a good game, if only a developer was stupid... errm... 'brave' enough to take the idea on board.

My idea? I want to see a cooking game. No, I don't want to see a game slowly roasting in an oven, I want to see a game about cooking. I've got no doubt that somewhere along the line a Japanese person has come up with the same idea, if only it were created. I want to see a cooking game. You know what I mean.

Think about it, it would be great. If anybody's played PaRappa the Rapper 2, during the first level (I think) in the burger bar, where pressing buttons in time with the music will 'chop the lettuce' and 'toast the bun'. Well, I imagine a game sort of like this. A game where you work in kitchens accross the country, working your way up from a measly burger bar man to top chef at, oh I dunno, Buckingham Palace. It could work. It's a great concept.

The main bulk of the game would be of course, cooking. There wouldn't be too much of a time limit, more customer satisfaction. Between the hours of 6 pm and 12 am, you're given orders as patrons sit in the restaurant. You have to juggle between various meals, trying to get them out on time while still making excellent food. Spend a few minutes garnishing the plates, or just send out the meals as they are? You decide. On easy difficulties, patron's patience levels are fairly high - they'll put up with a wait anything as long as an hour. However, on harder difficulties, it's 20 minutes or they'll leave. The more satisfied customers are at the end of their meal, the larger the tip they'll leave for you, and the more they'll pay. If a customer is unsatisfied, it's likely that they won't come back.

In career mode, the main aim is to open a restaurant, and to do this you have to work your way up from a hired cook in a restaurant, becoming more well known and even famous, then using earning's you have to buy your own restaurant. You can even juggle things like mortgages, but only if you make a substantially larger amount of money than you have to pay on the mortgage, otherwise you'll go bankrupt!

And of course, there will be varoius recipe's to follow. The kitchen will be laid out in a pre-determined fashion, and you have to manouevre the chef around, picking out various ingredients to use, setting the temperatures. There could be a chopping minigame too, where you move the analogue stick up and down to move the arm with the knife up and down. Classic! You could also do this to drain the rice, maybe scrub the dishes (in a similar fashion to the way Mario cleans up the sludge in Mario Sunshine). If you get an order wrong, or don't cook food to a satisfactory level, customers will complain. If you desire, there could be a 'disaster' mode where food standards will be on your back if you give loads of people Salmonella, or have a bad cooking environment. If you leave the oven on for too long, the kitchen could catch on fire too, which is where Snuggly's fire-fighting sim could come into play.

And there will also be an opportunity to hire staff, who'll go to any task you give them - whether it be a spoty teenager on washing up duty, or a mastercraft chef slicing and dicing meat and vegetables - it's up to you. However, different people can cook different types of meals. It wouldn't be much help to hire a pasta expert to cook steak, now, would it. The staff would also have different levels of expertise - a trainee would blunder around the kitchen like a moron, leaving cupboards open and the tap running, whereas a professional chef would work quickly and efficiently and turn out top results.

Bonus modes could include multiplayer, where two, three or four players race to complete a recipe in time, or a co-op mode where the two work as a team in a restaurant. An editor mode where you make up your own recipes would be cool, even an online trading facility where you can trade recipes from across the globe, creating a true international cuisine.

I think it's a good idea, and it's a shame something like this hasn't been released over here. Oh well, time will tell. Cooking is a great hobby, by the way, and a cooking game would be truly excellent!
