where I spent my youth searching
for something to believe in
for something I believed in
for something that never was
My god was an air raid shelter
where I hid from life and lies and love
(one and the same where I'm from)
I heard the crashing outside
of bombshells falling, exploding, killing.
I heard the cries of the wounded
as they begged me to open the door.
Locked away for years and years
I looked for inner-beauty and love divine;
I coveted them secretly
And let that dream mask the horrors of life
But still I found nothing, just an empty dream.
So I decided there was nothing there
And I shut and locked the shelter.
And I threw away the key to someplace
far
far away
And when they ask me about love and hearts
I tell them that the heart is a desolate air raid shelter
where people hide from the world and look for love.
"There's nothing there" I tell them "I've been"
But still they keep on searching
Still they hide away.
