It seems that all the big console companies are competing to be number one at the moment, and not caring who they hurt in the process. It seems that their view is that there can only be one big console and they're hoping the rest will slowly die out or fade away, but isn't there enough room for more than one company and more than one console in the world?
Competition is, of course, good for the consumer. It pushes down prices and gives you a wider choice of games and platforms to buy. Some people (as is clear from this forum) prefer the style and graphical originality of Nintendo, while others prefer the mass-produced and 'with-it' Sony games or the arcade thrills of Sega. With only one console there may be a lot of people who turn away rom games because they can't get what they want.
Sony, at the moment, are fighting hard to be the only console on people's lips. Whether they achieve this aim or not, the other companies will still be there, but they may be harmed if they're left behind. We've had scare stories already about how Sega have lost a lot of profit, and I for one would be sad to see them escape from the games hardware market, so I'm hoping people recognise the importance of different platforms to play their games on before it's too late.
The most important thing is that we have something to play our games on and that there are companies out there that care if we like Sonic or Mario better, or if we want to see an RPG more than another racing game. Let's hope there are!
(Ywah? Are you cracking up?)
Sony seems so average, I didn't want to be the AVERAGE gamer. I'm the next generation of gamers. So I'm cool.
(I don't think your analytical powers do you any justice, you know.)
Oh, I think they do.
