I hope im not the only one who's noticed this but it seems that film companies are optioning man of the popular comic books to make films. Not to mention that the highest percentage of sales is towards these films about comic book superheros. Its one thing to make an updated version of a film but it seems that since our technology with computers has sky rocketed they can take just about any character and create him. Even I am looking forward to the new releases like: X-Men 2, The Incedible Hulk, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, The Fantastic 4, etc. Im just wondering if they are catching on to the realization that too many people with they were superheros and they can profit off of stupid people who go see the films multiple times just to try and feel like the hero they idolize. Does anyone else feel this grip of comic books on our culture or am i just seeing something that isnt really threatening?

Comic's threatening our culture ? This is England you know, where we killed off our own comic industry and left such "gems" as the Beano as the sole survivors.

If it makes a good film that people want to see then who cares where it came from ? There are plenty of films from books that are appaling already.

Anyone here ever see the Witchblade TV series ? Now that was a good transistion from comics, maybe as good as Spiderman. X Men was an okay film, it captured the feel of the X Men and the alternate world they live in, but I think we all ended up feeling X Men wa one giant trailer for X Men 2.

Thanks for that, you know I'dbeen wondering why I went to see Spider-man twice. There was me thinking that it was because it was an excellent film... All along I must have been wanting to be spider-man myself. To web-sling from building to building and attack supervillians as an escape from the mundanity of my life.

Well no actually. Comic books just make for good movies; I mean to all intents and purposes they're a book that's already been story-boarded for the director. They have surprising well-developed characters, note how Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns tried to convey the psychology of Batman as well as being a plain old blockbuster, while Joel Schumaker's follow-ups sucked because he just went for action schlock and special effects. In this respect the films have a broader appeal because even poncy French film lovers like me think they rock. And also from a studio point of view comic books are a safe investment because they already have a huge and accessible fan-base that will probably all go and see the movie.

I'm looking forwad to the hulk because Eric Bana of Chopper fame is starring as Bruce Banner... and he's a stand-up comedian Aussie, which could be funny.
