The goose is getting fat,
Why are Sony releasing
Nothing but boring tat ?
Yes, once again the fabled Christmas run up is beginning, stores are planning out their Christmas decorations, people are saving up cash, the usual "Christmas is over commercialised" argument is firing up once more, and finally the summer games drought ends. Hopefully.
Sony have been kind to it's loyal owners over these sunny(?) months, we've seen Final fantasy X make its rather late appearance, Medal Of Honour Frontline stormed its way into gamers hearts and, erm well thats all that sticks in my mind. Sure, the number of titles released has been quite good, gems like Scooby Doo, Soldier Of Fortune, Star Trek Voyager, GT Concept, the boring plodathon that is Priosner Of War.
Summer has always seen mediocre titles released in the hope they will prise money from gamers wallets, I doubt many of us were so desperate as to buy Scooby Doo though.
Still, the Christmas assault has begun with the new TOCA game..... which isn't that far removed from the original in terms of gameplay... But, there's Conflict Desert Storm, and.....ah....
Sony's Christmas line up is less than impressive; Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness appears to be MGS2 with Lara, The fabled Getaway is already dogged by rumours it's actually a bit rubbish, there'll be another Fifa game of course, they're good aren't they ??
This is the point where people pile in and point out these two games aren't alone, my point is that, despite reading several Sony magazines a montt nothing sticks in my mind as really outstanding or original, even a bit. But maybe there is a reason for this......a little purple cube perchance ?
Yes, Nintendo's Game Cube sit's on top of my PS2. It's got games that actually look exciting coming this Christmas,as in I want them, now. Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Starfox Adventures, Resident Evil, and a veritable pile of titles that just stay in my head. They may not be original in some cases, but they have a certain appeal.
Now, most of you will say I'm simply a Ninty over here to stir things up, but I'm not, I like my PS2 but can't help feeling that Sony are relying on very few titles to win the Christmas sales battle, and it'll be a battle this year especially with Nintendo's stated intention to focus on Europe more. Sony may be the industry leader right now, but so was Sega once....
