We all on here are especially fond to games i assume, but why do we all go home and play on our games? Do you play because you are bored, addicted. What is the main reason, or are there many?

The main reason for me is enjoyment, i come home after being out all day and enjoy the story line of a decent RPG, or playing a game with friends or my brother. But what makes a game enjoyable? For me it has to be gameplay and the plot, i loved FF7 and spent many hours on it, talked about it, and became ADDICTED, as i am sure you have all been addicted to one game, at least, so what was it?
But do we always enjoy playing games? How many people have thrown the controller down in anger and swore, only to come back after a drink and try again, now if we swear about it saying we fu****g hate the game, why keep playing, they are addictive.

When we are bored we turn to, the internet, computer games, movies etc. Now like i mentioned, we don't always play compter games but go on the internet and chat with friends but still, i bet you have gone off to your console and played a game for a few hours just because you are bored, but why do you choose to do it, because you know yourself that you don't always feel like playing on a game but you still do!

It is scary to think just how addictive it is and my family joke about me wasting hours on the computer console, my dad (recently got MOH:F and has not stopped playnig) has been up until 1 in the moring paying the game, which is very unlike him as he has to go to work around 6-7. He said, and i quote
" It is weird that time just flies past when you are sitting there playing the game!"
That is true, i have began to play a game and looked up what i think to be a little bit later, and it is actually a fe hours later, and i am unaware of what has been heppening!

So what is the reason for you playing on your games, is it always purely enjoyment? Have you every been addicted to a game? If so what?

There are many reasons I play videogames. For one, it's something I enjoy doing. Another, it's a way to escape the troubles of life, totally relaxing the mind of all goings around by imersing myself in a videogame. Sure, some games I get addicted, others I don't, and some I feel I'm playing just for the sake of it at times.

I've played games since atleast 1988 when I was three years old. I had a ZX Spectrum and my parents would only let me play for around an hour a week. One reason was because they didn't want me to get addicted, and another because at the time we only had one TV, and my parents would rather feed their addiction by watching TV, instead of letting me have some fun playing the ZX Spectrum.

A few years later, when I was a little older, I saved up for a better ZX Spectrum which I bought second-hand. With it was 178 games for me to discover! Many of which I soon became addicted to, like the brilliant I-Ball II. What a game that was! I would spend many a Sunday afternoon playing I-Ball II just to lose at the same point - I was rubbish, never improved at all, but it didn't bother me as I was having lots of fun.

As I got older, I was given more time to play on my ZX Spectrum, an hour not being enough when you take into account the loading times per game and the fact that the ZX Spectrum's system was prone to crashing if it tried to display more than three colours. I started playing a game by coders Elite called Turbo Esprit. Although it was very VERY basic in comparison to todays standards, it seemed really fun. I was driving around fictional cities stopping drug dealers and hitmen and I enjoyed myself. At the time I didn't know what drug dealers and hitmen were, but it didn't matter.

As I got older, the innocent mind of a small child developed into a more knowledgeable mind of the adult world. My parents have always said I seemed more mature at mind than most kids my age and with a more grown-up mind comes all the worries and troubles that a little kid doesn't understand. So I started to play games to take my mind off things.

Sure, I didn't have the mind of a 17 year old like I do now, and worries weren't so big as they seem now, but playing on my brothers Game Boy and my ZX Spectrum gave me both pleasure and relaxation at the same time allowing me to forget everything else for the time I was playing.

I was a bit of a loner at school - bullied by most at the same age group, though not physically, but mentally. If I had the strength and the mind I have now I would have been able to stop them right away. So gaming helped me out there. I was able to kick, punch, shoot, and basically do everything I wanted to do to those who brought me mental pain, on a TV screen.

The same happened when I started high school, despite being over 120 miles away from the people who originally did it. So I began questioning myself as to was it something about me, or was it something I'd done, but again, videogames helped me escape from it all. In time I learned to control my emotions, to turn them into nothingness which gave me a more Vulcan-like way of thinking (all logical and stuff). Sure, I still had feelings, just didn't let anyone get to me in school.

Recently I've had too much stress all in one go. I've had coursework, exams, poor results and the high probability of leaving 6th-form which has come a bit of a shock to me. I tried and I tried yet I didn't get the grades I was hoping for. Once again gaming came to the rescue, and I have been able to vent my feelings onto Nazis in German bases, Extreme G racers in Atradaitoshi and evil minions in Spider-man. although I did get pleasure out of it all, I was mainly playing to vent my emotions which has come to be my main way of dealing with things. I tend to soak up my anger and my pain and then vent it all out later on all in one go. Videogames seem to be my relaxant, almost like a drug, but legal and causing very little, if any harm to anyone or anything.

Now I've come to terms with things, I play again for the fun factor. Super Mario Sunshine looks to be a very fun game, as does Starfox Adventures, and many other games look fun too. I will be enjoying myself in any time I can, and that will be by playing games again. Some days I might decide to have a break from it all and go out cycling or something, but otherwise I'll stay home and play games. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather do something with my friends than stay home alone - but soon they're all going to be in school in the 6th form, I'm going to be working (hopefully - if just to pay for my games) and finding time to do stuff will most likely become difficult.

But that's basically why I play games.

My Gamecube is a source of entertainment much like a DVD player or a PC. It is true what you say about time going quickly when playing on your games console but also when your on the internet time goes by very quickly indeed. Nice post anyway, keep it up.
