I've always found it hard to believe in any religion. Christianity, Buddhism, heck even that Wicca stuff. I was the kind of person who sat there when a disaster happened on TV and thought "where's God now eh ?" In short I found it hard to believe in anything like religion and subscribed to the theory that religion was just one of the many ways of contorlling people in how they think. During my X Files fascination I even found it plausible that religion was somehow created by ET's. Even on 9/11, seeing people on TV talk about God and their religion, I found it hard to believe there was anything to believe in.
Throughout history, religion has been the cause of so much war and killings; The Crusades, the Witch Hunts, The Inquisition, The Middle East, even WW2 to a degree, and today's War against Terrorism boils down to one side believing in a form of religion to justify themselves.
Last week I bought a DVD (hang on here, I'll swing this back to my point in a moment), The West Wing Season 1 boxset 2. In one Episode The President (Martin Sheen) has to decide whether to pardon a man on death row. He calls a priest to him as the execution time draws near. As the clock ticks down the last minute he talks to the priest and says his staff have spent the day trying to convince him to pardon this guy, but he hasn't. He tells the priest he's prayed to God for help, but nothings come, so he hasn't pardoned the man (who has now been executed). The Priest then tells him a sotry, and makes it clear that God did send him help - his staff and the priest himself, who tried to save this man's life.
Now to me, this seemed to just make religion and belief so clear. WE're not going to see some massive intervention by any God, because we ourselvescan do things just as well.
Its hard to explain, and sounds stupid I know, you won't see me in a church anytime soon, but I think I believe a little, and thats enough eh ?
Thanks for reading this far,

If only everyone could concentrate more on sorting our world out and less on stupid arguments, we could have a better world. But thats never gonna happen, well at least not in my lifetime.
ie. ROFL should have followed Button it God Boy etc...
Very strange !
There, couldn't have a decent, agreeable discussion on religion could we?
What is it all coming to ?
What a person believes is right for them is just that, correct *for them* and it is not my place to tell them otherwise.
For the simple fact I do not like it when others try that with me.
By all means talk at length about your beliefs, if I don't agree then I have the option to discuss.
And that's where 90% of religious AND non-religious people fail.
A discussion is two people saying "I do not agree with your viewpoint, however I am willing to listen to you and try to understand".
A refusal to entertain the notions of others is fundamentalist. Doesn't have to be religion to be fundamentalist. Just an absolute refusal to consider anyone else's ideas about a subject.
I may not personally place faith in a Christian idealology, but I make sure I listen and take in as much info as I can.
Which is why I equally entertain other religions, because I just don't know for a fact whether god exists or not.
That's called having faith - to believe because you do. So it's not that I do not believe in God, it's that I do not have faith in a god.
I could be wrong.
But so could you, or a Sikh, or Muslim or any other denomination.
But if we would all just let each other live in our own ways, as long as it does not harm anyone else, then we'd all experience something approaching heaven - whatever your definition is.
Just think of it. No wars over religion, no bigotry, nobody knocking on your door trying to sell you Watchtower, nobody persecuting you because you are Christian/Jewish/Whatever.
But hey, that's just me and what do I know?
You are quite happy to argue without judging. Too many Christians judge others and to many non-believers are also too quick to judge us christians.
If I want to slip on my sandals and sing kum-by-yah then let me - as long as I am not trying to force feed my religion to you then what's the problem ?
You know what I belive and I know what you belive - If ever you want to talk about it then I am happy to engage in conversation but I will never come on here and demand you listen to me.

Isn't purgatory some sort of place halfway between heaven and hell where you wait while they sum up your life to see how good you have been (greek myth or something?)....dsoesn't sound too bad, maybe they would let me have my PS2 while i wait :)
Your threat therefore doesn't scare me...
prepare to be hassled....:p
