Jaffa Cakes, what are they?
are they a cake, or are they a biscuit?
Their name implies cake, but you'll find them with the biscuits in your local supermarket.
Then again they are a little bit spongy, like a cake. There aren't many biscuits that are spongy.
But you can dunk a jaffa cake in your cuppa. You certainly can't dunk a cake in your tea.
Anyone else got any thought on this highly trivial point of debate?
Let me know
Imagine, if you will, a jaffa cake which is a foot in diameter. You certainnly couldn't call it a 'big biscuit'. It would be a cake. It has sponge, some jelly stuff, and a chocolate topping.
However, you most certainly could not serve a large slice of an oversize rich-tea biscuit as a dessert. It wouldn't work. The same goes for other biscuits.
It's a cake. I suggest you complain to your local supermarket.
I think that the Jaffa cake is neither cake or biscuit. A biscuit has crunch, jaffa cakes dont have that really. Cakes are usually pastry based treats, Jaffa cakes arent pastry tasting.
It is half and half really.
