There comes a time, in every posters forum life, when he/she has to let go. It may not be easy, but it's something we all have to go through from day to day.

Hi, I'm mikelar and I'm talking about Post Deaths and how we all go through them, it's a sad thing to spend 7 minutes writing a spoof on "Marios love hate relationship with his moustache" only to see it plumet through the SR fourm pages.

So what do you do? Well, after studying the forums day and night for as long as I can remember, I've brought together, for the posters of SR, the methods used to bring your loved ones back (after all, nobody loves their own topic more then the original poster). Unfortuanly, most just cause embarasment and others are just shameful, either way, you may print this off and pin it to your wall for peace of mind...that there's still hope....

Let's look at the methods (Key: OP=Original poster, VP=visiting poster):

"The Pop"
A truly Classic way of reviving a topic with a half decent chance of sucess (with a 45% survival rate). It's the most forgivable method and merely involves the OP posting in his own topic to bring it to the top of the forum list within 24 hours. Beautiful.

"The Topic Sandwich"
A truly gruesome way for a topic to go, it gained it's name from when the OP get's a reply from a VP to which the OP re-replys creating 3 posts; the OP's posting acting as 'the bread' and VP as the 'filling'. The replys then stop thus creating the sandwich. With these three posts, it slowly decends the forum list. The sandwich can be upgraded to a Club Sandwhich, a Big Mac and eventually a Happy Meal depending on how many 'layers' (or re-replays) the OP creates.

"The Zombie"
The most strange occurance on the SR forums is to see 'The Zombie' topic. It involves a topic being created, sliding down the forum list a little, then a reply is made, it then slides again, then another reply until, in the end no more then 10 replys are made in the topic yet it still manages to stay in the top half of the SR forum for a week. It's like the topic is dead, but still alive hence the name 'The Zombie'. Like the sandwich, the Zomebie can be upraded to Sheleton and evetually Vampire depending on how long it remains....."alive".

"The Leap of Faith"
The most shameful attempt of reviving a topic. The Leap of Faith obtained it's name from when the OP, after receiving no replies for longer then a time period of 24 hours, pop's his own post making the topic 'leap' from it's previous postition (normally in the middle of the forum page) to the top, at which point it will most probably slide down the forum list again. It's awful to have to see a poster sell-out in such a manner.

"The Fall from Grace"
It may be the most dignified, but it certainly ain't the most prettyiest. Gaining it's name from the process of where the topic slowly slides down the forum list, 'Fall from Grace' involves subliminal co-operation from the posters on the forum and the OP; everybody knows not to post in a topic that falls into this catagory mainly because it's spam. Sadly, the topic is left to flounder in the depths of the SR vaults.

"The Kamikaze"
A rarity on the SR forums but when it does happen, it's the best way for a topic to go. It involves a newbie or even a JAT coming onto the SR forums, starting his own topic; most common examples are "X-box is da best" and "Wot's is a GAD" (most common examples occur in the pokemon forums) they then spout the most obscene language know to man in said topics. SR then banish the member and the topic sinks without any replys. Great.

"The Full Revival"
Fortuantly, there is a way for a topic to be completly brought back to life. If the SR forum god, know by the alias 'Tony', is shining on you, then a happy-to-help Notable will hop along and wave his golden name in your direction giving your topic a new lease of life (90% survival rate) or even, if your really lucky and the SR forum god is particulaly happy that day, then a wonder known only as 'SR Staff' will post in your topic making it a hit, for the day (100% survival rate). However, be warned, if neither of these miracles occur within the time period of 24 hours, all hope is lost.

Fortunatly, equiped with these 'rules of the road' you can now easily distuinguish the symptons your topic is suffering and maybe perhaps even find the cure......

Good post. It's funny cos it's true.

Oh, I really like the OP "selling out" by popping his own thread. It's a shame when they have to do that.....

Heh, that was well done Mikelar.

I enjoyed reading that, and even laughed at the realisation that everything was based on truth.
