Recently i purchased a magazine, namly PC Gamer, and in there Top 20 games sectiion for the month, i was astonished to find Maxis's the "Sims" game and its counterparts filling up an incredible 7 out of 20 places in the chart! They were in first, 4th, 5th, 11th, 13th, 16th and 17th! Maxis has certainly proven itself with the sensational set of sim games, with must be raking in some huge profits for them, but realistically though, how far can they take this one game?!

Well with the expansion packs such as 'House Party' and 'On Holiday', it seems like the game has huge potential, as no one could have predicted the sucess of the expansions, and they have proven themselfs so far, so it looks like they could go on for ever. But would you really want them too? I mean yeh i enjoyed the original, i played it for some several hours straight, but when the expansion came out the thrill had diminished slightly, and when the next arrived even more so. It is basically the same idea with a slightly different twist to it, a different twist to each expansion pack.

So what now? If the expansions keep on being churned out by the now extremly wealthy Maxis, will you get bored with the idea and the twist? Well in time i would say yes. So now your mind has doubt in it, (sounds like a sim to me), you might be thinking, what will happen next? Well actually the answer is kinda ironic.

The game from which the original "Sims" spawned, the mighty classic on the Super Nintendo, with classic oldy graphics and an annoying little advice man, some three inchs tall, SimCity! Yes, thats right, the idea for the Sims came from SimCity, the idea of being able to control peoples lives and the way they live, like a president or prime minister, or some evil world domination hungry freak eg Dr Evil, gave birth to direct control over there movements, not just the house they live in, although you can alter it of course.
So the answer?? SimCity! Well SimCity 4 to be precise. According to the offical website, you will be able to import your Sims into the city of your dreams and imagination, let them run wild, find a job, settle in a part of town or wipe them out with say a flood or tornado...You will have the ability to flick backwards and fowards from the Sims to SimCity, controlling their surroundings and their little 'sim'ple lifes.

So now rethink the doubt i put in your mind about the Sims, now see how the Sims will be able to live on the original idea of the Sims and the original idea of SimCity, and think of the possibilities for expansions and addons a plenty! Maxis will become the richest game producer at some point no doubt. So yet again it looks like the tiny world of the Sims will provale with unparalleled sucess to the designers, and the gaming community such as myself and probably you.

So will the Sims and SimCity combined be Simsational? Well i would think so...

yeh, i see your point, it is easy to relate to, and just saying its the girls who buy it is a bit questionable, since 6 million females didnt buy the game or its expansion packs, although yeh a lot of girls do like it.

Too true. Along with Harry Potter, it's the only PC game my sister has ever bought.

The reason that the sims sells so well is that it will run on any machine, it is easy to get to grips with and people can realate to it, especially those who don't usually play computer games. Then they keep buying the expansions because they don't realise how boring the game is, or they do and they want to make it more interesting.
Girls love it.
