Why do those strange sounds that you hear at night always sound so much worse when you are home alone? Why do you always get the strange feeling that you may not be alone?

I was lying in bed in my downstairs bedroom, trying to get to sleep. Everything was quiet apart from the slight noise from the M25 a few miles away and the ticking of my clock.

As I was lying there, I heard a strange high-pitched buzzing above me. When I sat up in bed to listen, it stopped. I sat there for a few more seconds and it started again, a strange buzzing moving around the bedroom. I got up, walked across the room and turned on the light, I could still hear the buzzing but I couldn’t see anything. I then saw the tiny little gnat flying about and spent the next five minutes trying to kill it. With the gnat dead and its remains smudged up against the wall, I tried to get back to sleep…

Minutes later I heard a very strange noise coming from outside my house, it was like a strange dog barking, only after it had inhaled a balloon full of helium. I got up again to look out of the window; it was just a fox running around the road. That was that worry over…

Trying to get back to sleep again, but still aware of all the noises around me, I was disturbed by a massive bang from the kitchen. Lying there, not moving a muscle, listening for any other noises, the thoughts went through my head. Is someone trying to break in? Has somebody actually broken in? What will I do if they try to open my door? After a few minutes of lying there I decided to just ignore it as nothing had happened but just as I closed my eyes again, the whole house shudders and everything creaks. There was a strange noise coming from the kitchen and I was not very happy about it. I lay there, worrying like nothing before as I could hear some very strange noises coming from the kitchen, bangs and creaks and noises like someone banging on glass. By now I was starting to think about other possibilities, ‘Is it a ghost?’ ‘Somebody is definitely in the house,’ I got up out of my bed and grabbed my BB gun just in case of the worst and slowly and quietly opened the door. I crept across the hallway, looking around me just in case anything jumped out. The house shuddered once again and the noise from the kitchen became very load, with bangs and groans coming out of there. I opened the door quietly a turned on the light. Nobody was there; it was just the washing machine.

Still scared of somebody being in the house, I quickly walked back to my room, jumped into bed and hid under the covers, there were still noises outside and inside the house and I was rather scared.

Funny thing about all this is, I hear these noises all the time, why do I get scared when I’m the only one in the house?

I also have a big problem with spiders in my room!

I've had two webs spun on my bed in teh lsat week by big mama spiders!

The other night though, I coul hear this clicking noise.

-Cuts out all the boring stuff-

It was a spider stuck between a fold in the plastic bag in my paper bin. It was tapping it's feet on the bag and making a really loud noise!

Not as bad as last week!

I'm laying there and there's a bloody owl in the tree outside my house!

They make some really dodgy noises!

Saying that, having a fox yapping away outside your house can worry you a bit!

Personally, I never take any chances if I hear any dodgy noises during the night.

I grab the nearest Cricket bat (My brother has quite a few) and go investigate...

One time I coudnt find anything and had to use a vase...pretty solid metal vase mind...

I live downstairs as well... it's cool.

Kitchen is behind wall my bed is at and I always hear washing machine and even the clock on the kitchen wall ticking.

The strangest noices are from seats, TV's etc... that short but large noise like a creak... maybe wood/plastic expanding or something.

Indeed

I wondered whose house it was me and my girlfriend broke into the other night!

Ps. your hockey stick would be a more effective weapon. does more damage. Ground floor bedrooms are creepy you feel that someone is looking in the window. Now that I know you live by the M25 I think i'll track you down and make weird noises outside your house to scare you.
