This is a cautionary tale and one that happened to me over the last couple of days.
In the early hours of wednesday morning I did my usual routine, I got up, glugged down a cup of tea, watched some crap morning tele ('city guys' was on, urghh).
After I had actualy woken up enough to focus properly I heard the sweet voice of the internet calling me. So I went upstairs booted up the computer and double clicked on the good old B.T.Openworld icon.
I was greeted by the usual clicks, beeps and weezes and all was well.
But what is this! The computer started to 're-dial'. 'Oh well' I thought 'second time lucky'.
But no. The damn thing wasn't having any of it. So I tried clicking the 'I.E' icon instead. But this time it said 'check your password and try again'.
Panic began to set in. How could this be? Itwas working perfecly the night before.
So I presumed it was a server problem and kept trying throuout the day.
The next morning arrived and still no joy. So I had to do the unthinkable. Ring a helpline.
I spoke to a very nice lady in customer services who assured me it wasn't a billing problem. So I kept trying, but to no avail.
So the next step was to phone the 50p per minute 'openworld' helpline, and to cut an already too long story short it WAS a billing problem. I had been given a new debit card recently and it hadn't occured to me to tell them of the new number.
Hey, the money just magicaly comes out of my account every week. I don't think of trivialities like giving them the right number.
