John Terry was expected back in training at Chelsea as he looked to start rebuilding his international career after being cleared of attacking a nightclub bouncer.
Terry was suspended from England duty while he faced three charges arising out of an alleged nightclub incident in January.
After he and team-mate Jody Morris were found not guilty at Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court, the international ban was effectively lifted.
Terry will now look to impress Sven-Goran Eriksson, but only when he has managed to regain full fitness after a summer knee operation.
While Morris managed to play a reserves game during the trial, Terry is a couple of weeks away from returning to first-team action.
However, he was in tears when he left the court after his acquittal and boss Claudio Ranieri will be delighted the cloud of suspicion has been removed from over the club.
Chelsea managing director Trevor Birch said: "We are delighted with the jury's verdict and we will welcome both players back to the squad. Hopefully life carries on as normal now.
"It's only been the last two weeks or so while the court case has been on that they've been unable to train. John has been injured but I think he's more or less fit now.
"It's over and we are grateful for that. The matter has already been dealt with by the club. The club rules are there and they were in breach of those."
Chelsea have already fined Terry and Morris two weeks' wages for breaking club rules in being out late on the town less than 48 hours before an FA Cup third-round tie at Norwich.
However, the club consistently backed the players throughout the legal proceedings.
