On the Christmas we bought our brand new PC (now an outdated piece of junk, although I am using it as we speak...), I saw Worms United and read about how it was the ultimate update of the original.
And after 3 months of saving, I finally had enough to get it.

It delighted and disappointed in equal measures.

The game itself was fantastic! Even better than I'd thought it would be.
Unfortunately, the game was crippled with some nasty bugs which caused problems from the off.
Not to mention hundreds of crashes, no less then 3 times we had to send our PC in to be repaired thanks to this game.

That wasn't enough to stop us (us being me and my two brothers) playing it though.
Between March and Christmas, it was the only PC game we had, and the only reason that we stopped playing it was because after the third crash, our parents banned use of the game - because they needed the PC for work, they pretty much needed it working! :-)

In the end, we bought the "windows friendly" Worms 2, to replace it.
But although I liked the new look Team 17 had given the series, I didn't like it half as much as the old style.

Worms United had the brilliant war-fanfare-like music, the "secret file" style menu system, the game had a lot more character than it's "window's menu" style follow ups.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Worms 2's wacky cartoony style, I just always prefered the old style more.

I'm not sure whether it's mostly nostalgia, but I loaded the game onto my PC today (parents have another PC for work now, so this piece of junk is expendable! :-) ), and I still love it.

Now Worms 3 has been announced.
The worms series goes into 3D.

It started with Worms which was followed by "updates" (Reinforcements and Worms United).
Then Worms 2 came along with a new look and was followed by updates of it's own (Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party).

Now it's time for the new look again.
Call me nostalgic, but I'd like to see Team 17 go retro!
Remember the cutscenes from the original worms games? Wouldn't it be cool if the worms looked like that, and the sniffing homing missiles and everything...

The old music would be a welcome return, as well as the old "menu style".
Having looked at the Worms 3 website, the images only show 3D versions of the "Worms 2 style" worms, but I expect it's still in early devellopment.

Also, having Worms United (this time bug-free :-)) as an unlockable feature would be nice! (especially if they could throw in all those customise levels and voice sets that you used to have to download)...

I know that this forum is as lively as a waterlogged cricket field, so I'll probably end up posting this in FoG as well.
If any of you do pass by here, though. Any thoughts?

I want another worms game. I have Worms Armageddon and Worms United. An Xbox version would be great, as it is one of the greatest multiplayer games ever if you have people over for a weekend. Plus, girls like it.

Time for a new one.

As well as simply giving your Worms Bandanna's and the like, I'd like to change what "sort" of worm they are.

The Worms 2 "style" of worms have already been made 3D.
It would also be good if you could have the worms from the classic FMV sequences and the guys that have appeared on the box covers too.

I've looked at the Worms 3 website.
All the old features are there, from Ninja Ropes to Concrete Donkeys.

I know that Worms 3D sounds iffy, but I think they know what they're doing.
Lemmings and Tetris went 3D, just because the fashion at that time was to make things 3D. Worms 2 was made during that time and people put Team 17 under tremendous pressure to follow the trend. But they refused.

Now they finally feel that it can be done.

Besides, all these 2D worms games are starting to ware a little bit thin...

I had Worms United. It ruled. The cutscenes were cool too. And some of the levels and one player missions you had to carry out were ingenious! For the sequel I'd like to see the option to customise your team, ie. give each individual worm a different appearance, such as the allowance of bandanas around their head, shades, tattoes (:D), beards and stuff. Just think, you could create a terrorist network of worms and create Osama Bin Wormy!

I also got Worms 2 (not as good as the original in my opinion) and Worms Armageddon (the game Worms 2 SHOULD have been). Armageddon was great because it had one player missions that were tough and rewarding as in the original, it had pretty much all the weaponary from Worms 2 but balanced it much better, meaning you still were forced to use 'old skool' weaponary like the bazooka, grenades, cluster bombs, etc. Also, for this sequel they'd better have the Ninja rope! That was like the best feature of the game! Swinging your worm through a level like tarzan, going on missions to get weapons crates before time ran out, and flying into other worms as you let go knocking them into the drink! Worms armageddon also ruled because of so many new modes and features. Each team had their own piece of 'secret' weaponary. I loved the flame thrower, but there were different weapons, and each team got to choose the one they liked best to use in combat. There were modes that allowed sudden death to occur so rather than your woms health going straight down to one, a gas cloud made all worms sick so health would slowly decrease. And there were bonus games too. The Ninja Rope game where you went round a level picking up weapons crates before time ran out. Each time you got a crate you'd get a bit more time, and you had to see how long you could last. Another one virtually the same, but you controlled a Super Sheep! And the classic Euthenasia game where you had to blow up old grannys with your weaponary before time ran out. Worms Armageddon was a classic. The one player missions had some kind of rough plotline with secret weapons, assassinating leaders, getting over minefields... it was very tough but great!

The thing I'm worried about. Will worms actually work in 3D...? I'm not sure if it will. Aiming will be made a lot more time consuming and difficult in three dimensions, and features like the Ninja rope could be made obselete. As well as this, destrucable terrain in 3D is going to take a hell of a lot more processing than in 2D, as will the physics stuff, meaning you'll probably be needing some high spec PC. Also, it may lose the 'pick up and play' style of the prequels. All those were very easy to start playing, but difficult to master. This one could be hard for beginners to get into, thus not making it so good a multiplayer game. And the whole point in worms was it being a multiplayer funfest.

But we'll definitely be getting new weapons, surely they'll be even more farm yard animals to blow up, and hopefully the return of the fabled Concrete Donkey!!! (WAHOO!)

Anyway. I'll remain somewhat sceptical about a 3D version of worms. Lemmings didn't work in 3D. Tetris didn't. But maybe they can pull this off. I can only hope. And go off in search of all my old worms games. :D
