Thought you guys would be able to help me with this.

Have just got IE6 (about time!) and am having trouble with it's tightened security on cookies. I can't log in to various things on the web such as hotmail and yahoo mail.

Hotmail login screen shows the security (eye + no entry sign) icon on the status bar, meaning some sites have had their cookies blocked. However, the sites shouldn't be blocked because I've allowed them, and even right clicking the blocked URL (displayed when double clicking the aforementioned security icon) shows that "Always accept cookies from this site" is already ticked/checked!

Attempting to log in to my mail account in yahoo or hotmail produces "The page cannot be displayed" error. Hotmail "Problems Signing In?" ironically only helps for IE5 users.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I asked a friend about this, and he said he just clicked an "Add site to trusted zone" type button on his "Tools" menu. I don't have this button - must be from an IE6 pluggin.

Thanks in advance.

Ungrateful little scamp.

And you'd wonder why people wouldn't bother helping you anymore. I read the origianl post, not the replies, before I posted that.

Now, shush.

I said in my message below:

"I've tried lowering the privacy settings, and changing the advanced options to allow all cookies". That was done from the privacy tab, believe it or not.

How about the privacy tab?

Hmm... still not much luck. Can't find anything to do with cookies there. Thanks for the idea, though.

If anyone else has had similar trouble, please say! :o)

...You know, I just re-read that post and realised you were refering me to the "Advanced" tab, not the "advanced" button...

I'll check that, now I know what you were meaning :o)

I've tried lowering the privacy settings, and changing the advanced options to allow all cookies.

Still get a blocked URL (that contradictorily says it's not blocked when you right-click it).

Try messing around with: tools > internet options > (tab @ top) Advanced.
they have cookie options in there.
