Scars left unhealed from experiences past
A life cut short, an arm in a cast
Five stitches in the forehead and a headache for days
Feelings being hurt in so many ways.
Running to hide for fear of being seen
A very confused and scared senseless teen
Threats and sly glances to deepen the fear
Grabbed by the throat for a word in the ear.
A cry out in pain that will never be heard
The victim ignored and subsequently deterred
Questions of childhood are eventually raised
The criminal imprisoned, prosecution is praised.
The victim moves on yet never moves forward
Parole board hearings, then release is ordered
Victim runs scared and in fear for her life
Released man pursues gripping a knife
Victim lies wounded, won’t live through the day
Man says “it’s punishment for getting him put away.”
