I remember watching him as a kid. Taking on the likes Andre the Giant, "The Million Dollar man" Ted Dibiase, The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, The Undertaker, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and so on. Most of all, i remember that night when Hogan body slammed the 500 pound behemoth Andre the Giant in front of 93 thousand fans at the Skydome. I simply loved to see Hogan lock up in the ring week in, week out. Hulkmania was simply running wild.
Hogan has defeated such superstars as The Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker, Ric Flair. Defending the most prestigious belt in the business- the World Heavyweight Title. Hogan now had to match up with the great Yokozuna (Unfortionately passed away a few months ago) at 1993's King of the Ring. Hogan lost his title that night, after a mystertious photographer released a fireball from his camera, burning Hogan's flesh. Hogan then disappeared from the Federation in 1993. Vowing never to return to the WWF again.
Hogan immediately travelled to Japan. He faced the likes of The Great Muta and other Japanese mainstays. Meanwhile, WWF fans had forgotten about Hulkamania. Bret "The Hitman" Hart had regained his title from Yokozuna at Wrestlemania X, which secured his popularity. The "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels was on the scene and putting on some thrilling matches. Most noticeably the Ladder match against Razor Ramon (Now known as Scott Hall).
Fans no longer wanted to see good ol American Hero's. They wanted to see Mankind jumping off Cages and landing on thumbtacks. They wanted to see beer-swelling SOB's like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Also The Rock and Triple H was also around, starting their careers in the "Attitude" era. Fans had already forgotten about Hulkamania...
But Hogan re-emerged in WCW for the summer of 1994. Capturing the WCW World Title from Ric Flair in his very first match for the company. Old foes like The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage and Ric Flair were aldo thorns in Hogan's side once again. Also Hogan locked up with WWF future superstar The Big Show (Then known as "The Giant").
Before WCW folded. Hogan captured the WCW World Title 6 times. I was enjoying seeing Hogan again, but then Hogan joined the most disruptive faction in WCW - The nWo (New World Order). Hogan there joined the heel ranks. Spraying the nWo sign on the backs of opponents along with Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and the 1-2-3 kid (Now known as X-Pac in WWF). Hogan was in the nWo for a few months before joined the babyface ranks once again and he was back in his old red and yellow colours. WCW after that didn't last long as the McMahon family bought WCW. WCW faded into history as Chris Jericho on December the 9th became the first performer ever to unify the WCW World Title and the WWE Heavyweight title together in the same night.
Speaking of Chris Jericho, the WWE was going through another era. With new stars such as Rob Van Dam, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Brock Lesnar rising up the he ranks. Not forgetting some old faces such as The Rock and Triple H. Once again, Hogan was forgotten about.
But Hogan was soon to return to the WWE at the peak of 2002. Vince McMahon remembering his old friend summoned back Hogan. Not on his own, but with his nWo comrads - Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. The nWo was once again started up and the nWo was already spraying the logo on Steve Austin. Hogan meanwhile was on a crash course with The Rock. It was set to be Icon Vs Icon and good vs evil. But when Hogan entered the Skydome arena in front of 68,000 thousand fans, fans simply could not hate Hogan after his career. The Rock was now hearing boo's around him whenever he hit Hogan. Cheers were greeted to Hogan when ever he delivered his famous "Legdrop of doom" or when he was biting the "Peoples Champion". The Rock triumphed ultimately in that match. But Hogan grasped his ribs, shook Rock's hand and took in the ovation. Hulkamania was reborn and so was the WWE. Long live Hogan and long live Hulkamania...
