The main point im doing this is because not everyone here, me included, wnats to spend a lot of money on controllers and stuff and instead buy them on the games.
Often though the best controllers and things are more expensive than the others.
On the N64 i buyed official stuff all the time until near the end of the consoles life when i then brought a unofficial controller and memory card.
The controller was good, not as good as the official, and it was cheap and i would some times play with it instead of the official one because it felt good and had turbo buttons. The memory card was useless and lost saves and everything.
In this topic i was wondering if everyone could right down there peripherals, official and unofficial and give them marks out of ten with a little writing about the good points and bad points.
I only have the official peripherals that came in the box.
Official controller 9/10
Fits into your hand well and responses well too. All the buttons apart from the Z button are easy to reach, The Z button is too small and hard to find when you try to find it in a hurry.
Memory card 7%2
The best controller ever designed, and the only decent one worth getting. Though the Z button may be awkward to reach sometimes, it fits into your hands perfectly and is extremely comfortable.
My score - 9/10.
Official Nintendo Memory Card 59:
If you're a gamer with a significantly low cash income like me, and you end up buying about 3-5 games a year, then this will suit you just fine. It's reliable, and will store saves for about 8-10 games.
My score - 8/10.
Always used to lose my smb saves at least once a week, and would then ask for re-formatting, losing the rest too.
Oddly enough, now that i have another one, and don't keep smb on the 4gamers card, it seems to be working okay. Still, can't trust it.
Is the same size as the official one though, looks great :^S
3/10
4gamers controller
Feels a bit ugly, but it up to the demands of controlling smb without causing problems. It just doesn't have that quality feel to it though.
6/10
Wavebird
Can't fault it.
10/10
SR's free memory card
You might not get the same make as i did for cashing in your 5 reddies, but the card i got has never let me down. Bigger than the official one, won't fit in a game box's holder thing. Other than that, faultless. And free.
9/10
The brand is GAME's own and i have to say it is brilliant
it's cheaper but just as effective as the official memory card.
The only problem is that it is to big for the memory card holders inside of game boxes.
i rate this card 8/10
it may be a 59 block memory card but it is cheaper than nintendo's 59 block memory card.Highly recomended
Wavebird : It works perfectly , as if it's on wires , but it's not , it doesn't use much battery life , it's lighter than the normal one , it doesn't rumble (wahooo !) it has a cool little power button , it is actually more comfortable than the normal one , it looks better , it's colours is a bit dull but nice , you can have 16 of them in your house without them interfiering with each other, they are only £5 more than the normal one , and ... i love it ! Because it is slightly bulkier , i find that it's easier to reach the Z button on the wavebird , so im gonna give it 10/10 , because i have absolutley no problems with it.
Memory Card 59 : It saves your games , it's small , esthetically pleasing , it doesn't lose your saves , but it doesn't have enough memory , ive nearly used two whole memory cards so far and at £14 each they are too dear for the amount of data that they hold. I'll review my Datel 16x memory card , when it comes later this week.
I give the offical memory card : 7/10
Control Extension leads : They give you an extra few feet of length , and untill i got my wavebird i used them all the time , and they are still very usefull for multiplayer as that way each player can sit further away from the screen and not get in the way of the screen by being too close.
But they do tend to make the tangling of the wires a bit worse than usual , but this is obviously going to happen. Because of this im giving them 9/10
i'll review some more stuff later. Wait a minute i dont have anything else ;(
