FIFA 2001 is the latest in the long line of FIFA games, and you will be pleased to hear that it is the best... by far. While other updates in the series made slight improvements on the game before, FIFA 2001 is leaps and bounds away from FIFA 2000. For a start, EA now have 6 different superstars from around the world providing the motion capture including Paul Scholes, Edgar Davids and Pavel Kuka to name but a few.
The whole game flows much more smoothly than before, with defenders tracking back and marking their men, and keepers making fingertip saves rather than letting the ball trickle between their legs. The AI has definitely improved, and the whole team is markedly more intelligent - players make more runs of the ball and generally help you out. FIFA 2001 also has all the extra frills you would expect, like animated linesmen, animated coaches on the sidelines and even animated crowd props. The new sideline animations are particularly impressive, as they mimic real-life sideline rants perfectly. The crowd are now more responsive than ever, jeering a poor performance and cheering a fantastic victory.
You can pick from over 60 national teams to guide to glory, or any of the game’s numerous club teams - each with precise kits and team logos. With the new Season mode you play each game as it comes, and even get promoted or relegated. FIFA 2001 is a giant step towards the beautiful game and is one of the best footie games ever. It's time to put on your boots once more...
