For years The Simpsons has been the top choice among viewers for cartoon comedy. The great variety of characters, insane storylines and scary similarities to real life have made The Simpsons a cult classic. In fact it is believed the series has all the ingredients for a top video game.
So why is it we have never been given the game The Simpsons deserve?
Oldies like Radioactive Man have been flawed to say the least. But the frightening observation of recent efforts has been the idea that The Simpsons is taking that road of "great license, makes money, why bother?".
Simpsons Wrestling was a poor attempt, being almost unplayable with unexcuseable graphics.
Simpsons Road Rage was an improvement but the concept of the game had been seen before in the Crazy Taxi series and there are always moments when you see how the game could have been so much better.
It would be sad to think The Simpsons will always be seen in the gaming industry as a stereotypical big license game, lazy, unimaginative and tedious, something that can not be related to the TV series.
Whether the next installment continues the trend or becomes the game all Simpsons fans have been longing for remains to be seen. I personally believe the former will be the likely outcome.
Its a shame but if it sells then like most big license games, the developers will see little purpose to put the effort in.
