Ok, this is a bit of fun and I don't think I will be able to do it for everything however give me a name of a games character and I will try, in less than six links.. link him back to Mario in one way or another.

For example.

If one of your say 'toad'.

I would say, Toad is the personal assistant to Princess Peach in Super Mario 64, Mario saves Princess Peach.

That was an easy one.

If your reffering to me, I haven't got anything from the new NGC, seeing as I don't have it, and haven't even seen it.

And another thing, your 'simpler' way is longer than Edgy's :)

easier way than that:

Conker-Diddy Kong- Donkey Kong- Mario

Er-no's sneaky "released at the same time as" link worked a treat.
The only idea I could come up with was:

Samus does wall jumping move (in Super Metroid). Mario uses it in Mario 64.

Samus is a hard one because she doesn't really link to other Nintendo characters. She's not a Miyamoto creation you see...

Yeah. I thought that was common knowledge?

So Samus is the woman out of Metroid?

Samus was originally released in 1994 by Nintendo -- Also in development at the same time was Yoshi's Island which stars Baby Mario -- In the story or Mario, Baby Mario is actually Mario 30 years previous -- Mario.
