My mum is a ward clarkess in Hairmyres Hospital (Orwell started 1984 there) which is near my house.
On Thursday night coincidently there were many stabbings in my town and neighbouring towns due to drugs and alcohol... so they all came into my mum's ward slashed to pieces.
These people come from the really bad areas... Blantyre, Cathkin etc and are really evil people.
They were intoxicated so much they couldn't be operated on or sign forms... a doctor from Bangladesh was trying to stitch them up whilst receiving racial abuse beyond believe and was also being punched and kicked while he tried to save them from bleeding to death.
I love this bit in a strange way... a 20 year old who was out stabbing people the night before starts asking for his mummy... so his mum comes in the next morning and approaches my mum. Apparently as my mum says she was shaking probably caused by alcohol or drugs... so she starts asking my mum what happened and stuff and my mum tells her.
Then she asks if she can go into the actual operating theatre with her son... since my mum has never heard of such a stupid thing she acts a bit surprises and then replies no... at this point the moron takes offence and starts swearing at my mother... so my mother takes it calm and continues the chat about if she'd like to stay or go home... she then starts swearing again tells my mum to f..k off and then walks away screaming I'll f..king have you.
So my mum was shaken by this and thats how she told me the story...
Also because the ones who got slashed in face get special person in so they don't have scar... why? Let them bloody bleed to death and have massive scars... they're are people like my gran who are on waiting lists ppages long yet these morons get special care.
It's always happening... they come slashed to bits from these crappy places and demand special treatment which takes care away from those who need it... people ringing buttons asking for their own TV and better food and swearing at nurses for no reason. My mum has known 2 excellent nurses who have been sacked for simply telling two people to f..k off... yet these people get away with this absolutely free and leave my mum to walk home scared incase the crazy woman jumps her.

Anyway, I've been attacked walking home before, and I've had trouble walking home loads of times. You get used to it, but it's damned annoying because they usually outnumber you, so you know you'll have to run instead of staying and fighting. Which sucks

I agree with MoJoJoJo... if a child is brought up to think that violence is alright to do and they're are not disiplined for say punching a brothe then they will grow doing this... stabbing people etc.
I hate my town, I'm scared to walk home from my mates at night and parents make me get taxi... because they're is a big chance I would get mugged.

Yes, people have self control, but it's whether or not they feel that stabbing someone with a knife, for example, is wrong, then using that judgement. That judgement comes from their upbringing. To me, stabbing someone is unthinkable, but to someone who's been raised on violence, it can be perfectly normal
Parents, streets, friends, institutions (such as school) are as much to blame for crime as the offenders themselves. When you are brought up within a criminal family, it is a norm. They can continue the life of crime themselves, because to them it is perfectly normal. Exactly the same way a Jewish child would be totally used to not being able to eat certain foods, whereas a child of another religion would think it very strange
