And if so, just how much does it mention the movies that Patrick Bateman watches?
The line "I have to return some video tapes" is a classic from the movie, and whenever he's in his flat there's a movie on in the background. Often porn, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre one time.
Only the sex in the movie is porn sex, especially when he asks the girls to get it on together. (Note to any that haven't seen the film - this isn't porn, or even remotely like porn, don't watch it hoping it will be based on the last paragraph.)
Also, the scene with the chainsaw + Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Obvious link. Mentioned in the book?
Also, when he goes on the killing spree at the end, he shoots the cop car and it explodes like something from a bad action movie.
So yeah, does the book go into much depth regarding movies influence on what goes on inside Bateman's head?
If you are not easily disturbed I recommend it.
I don't know about funny, I found the book really hard going and there were some points where I had to stop reading.
Especially the sex/murder stuff with the prostitute and the rat.
*shrugs*
I remember reading it during my sandwich year in '97...
I would be reading it on the tube, and what was happeneing would provoke such an emotional responce I would involentarily look up to see if anyone else was as freaked out by it :)
