He seemed to link-up very well with Vieira in the centre of midfield, and some people have even suggested that this new partnership could work even better than the pairing of Petit and Vieira.
With that in mind, 'Gilberto' (as he now wants to be known) could take-up a regular space in the centre of the Arsenal midfield, forcing out another Star Gunner - possibly the only man who can score against United; Freddie Ljungberg.
The main reason why Freddie the Swede didn't feature in Sunday's 1-0 victory is because of this injury he has that'll keep him out for another week or 2. The new Premiership season kicks-off on Saturday, and you never know, while Gilberto is only 'filling-in' for Ljungberg in the Arsenal midfield, he COULD end-up taking his place on a regular basis!
You never know... he is Brazillian....
Then again, i'm sure Freddie will be given a starting role for both the League games against Arsenal this season, seeing as he can put the ball in the back-of-the-net against them almost every time the 2 teams meet.
If not him, they who will it be??
The only other player I can seeing being dropped-back onto the bench is Ray Parlour, as Ljungberg moves out to the wide-right position.
I never have seen what's so good about that gingger anyway....!
Leaving out Ljunberg could quite possibly be the biggest mistake that could be made. forget the link up play between Gilberto and Vieira, just look at the chemistry between Bergkamp and Ljunberg. When he did return from injury he was a phenomenen and would have been many peoples choice for player of the year had the voting been done at that stage.
Drop some other idiot.
:-D
It is slightly worrying how Arsenal completely dominated that game without Pires and Ljungberg...
Although the charity ( or community as they call it these days) sheild never really gives the whole picture of how the season will unfold.
