For fans of the original, you get to play as Super Larry-O and his younger brother Muigi. But the more intriguing part of this announcement is that you also get to play as the Princess of the Fungus Kingdom, Pansy, and her loyal servant Stool, whom it is rumoured the princess 'sits' on a lot. So now, unlike the previous version, you can play as all parties involved in the game, and rumours suggest that each one has his or her own special abilities:
Larry-O: He's short, fat and has a beard. So most likely he wont be able to jump so high as everyone else. He's meant to be a good sprinter though!
Muigi: He's tall, thin and like his older brother Larry-O, he has a beard, though sadly for Muigi, it's ginger. Why he doesn't shave or dye it is anyone's guess, but according to Sony Computer Entertainment, he had a different colour beard so you could tell the difference between him and Larry-O in the original arcade game, Larry-O Bros. Anyway, Muigi isn't the best at running but he can jump pretty high and can reach places his older, and obviously fatter, brother can't.
Stool: Being a blob of fungus, he can't really do much. He's very slow at moving and he can't get out of the ground so jumping is out of the question. Infact, why SCEE have made him a playable character is anyones guess as he can't actually do anything but sit there and grow!
Princess Pansy: Princess Pansy is not very lady-like in appearance. She wears, what some people have called 'indecent' clothing, but it seems to attract the male gamers from the teen generation upwards. Wearing nothing but a bikini top and a very tight fitting pair of bikini panties, she gets very cold at times. So to keep warm, in her spare time, she practises gymnastics which help her greatly through this adventure. Being able to flip, somersault, and do the chicken-limbo will give the male gamers great pleasure whilst the female gamers go on diets to look like her. It is said that she is the beta-testers favourite characters and SCEE are paying Tommy Mallet to write a song to top the charts as well as advertise this game. The song is rumoured to be about the princess wearing a pink-polka-dot bikini, funnily enough.
The story of the game is much different to the original, and features nothing to do with Larry-O's skills in car mechanics. Here's what SCEE's spokesman, Toyota Satsuma, told us:
"One night when Larry-O goes to sleep, he dreams a very unusual dream. In this dream he is told the whole dreamworld will be destroyed if he doesn't help the carrot-people defeat the evil Flopsy the Bunny! Flopsy is eating all the carrots and there's only one way to stop him, throw carrots at him."
We are still unsure where Muigi, Stool and Pansy fit into this, but we're assuming they're all dreaming the same dream - which is a near certain impossibility. When questioned about it, Satsuma whispered something to his assistant, Fuji Camawa, and told us, "It's only a game!" We slowly backed out the room and ran when we were out of their site.
From the information sent to us in the form of a leaflet, we were able to establish that the game doesn't follow the traditional 'Jump and Run' formular that the arcade and Playstation versions followed. This version is trying something totally new that has never been done before - in that you pick up vegetables from the ground, in most cases carrots, and through them at enemies to defeat them, as opposed to the original jumping on their heads technique. Instead of killing enemies when you jump on them, you actually stand on them instead, allowing you to pick them up and throw them at other enemies killing them both if you run out of carrots.
No official release date has been announced - just 'soon', so start saving those pennies and we'll give you more news as we hear it!
Coolest thing ever
Think there's any chance Nintendo could bring this to court? Although Sony made up Super Larry-O Bros., it does sound very similar. Can't wait for the game though :-D
And a second reason to buy a PS2! ;)
Loved the first one too - such originallity!
By the way, any thoughts on the upcoming game Super Larry-O Moonlight? :-)

Sorry, I was getting mixed up with a mock creation of my own, Barry-o, who defeats his arch nemesis Trouser.
Shouldn't be long before SCEJ start developing their handheld console in the shape of a bar of Dove soap (but a lot bigger) called the Play Gear. Back-lit and in full 32-bit colour, this handheld will...drain your batteries withing half an hour :)
Brilliant. Very brilliant. Very very brilliant.

Oh, in Japan, there's a 'never to be released in Europe' version of Super Larry-O Bros in the form of an add-on. This is to be named Super Larry-O Bros 2 in Japan, and will be called Super Larry-O Bros: The Undiscovered Levels, in USa.
