For many years now, ever since the Mario series began, Shigeru Miyamoto ('the man, the master') has been regarded as the father or 'dad' of brothers Mario and Luigi, purely because of the fact that they are just one of his many creations - just like Link and Kirby.
Although they may not look or even sound anything like Shigsy himself, they do still belong to him, and the Nintendo 'familly'.

Let's look at things from a different perspective for a minute...
Both Mario and Luigi are humans - OBVIOUSLY! So like all humans and other living and breathing creatures (even plumbers), they can't have just popped out of thin air into the world where they now belong.
They must have come from somewhere... someone.... but who??
Well, unless you're around 10 years old or under you won't understand the truth about where babies come from, and so you would be in denial if I were to tell you the truth now. But for the rest of us who do know, there simply MUST be one man out there... somewhere.... who played a big part in bringing the Mario Bros. into our lives.

The question is... who is he, and what is he like??
Here's what I think...

Looking at the appearence of his 2 Italian sons I can quite confidently say that this guy has dark hair, and it is quite possible that he has a black moustache to go with it. Wether he is Italian or not is another question. His surname Mario, may be Italian, but we don't know enough about the guy really. For all we know, the brothers could've been left alone to live with their mother in Italy as daddy left his latest fling after '5 minutes of fun'. He's probably quite a chubby guy too, maybe even a pasta lover like Mario Mario himself.

Ok, let's just go with the flow and say he IS an Italian.
With a surname like Mario, let's call him... Paulo. Paulo Mario - for now, anyway.

Incase you haven't done Science at GCSE level yet, Genes are basically these things that are passed down from the parents to the child, and will help to determine things like the child's eye and hair colour and stuff, all dependant on what the parents were like. That's the basics you need to know here, and that's enough for this Science lesson.
It's more than likely that the father has all the Dominant Genes that made Mario and Luigi look like they do, so let's go with that theory.
Mario is the hero, Luigi's a wimp.
If you were to compare a large number of happy couples, then i'm sure you'd find that a lot more men are more 'heroic' than their 'wimp-like' women. So it is possible that Mario has taken after his father in his heroic ways - or at least in the Plumming business!
If Mario did take after him, then we could also say that 'Paulo' Mario is/was a rather big character, but a little on the short-side. Unlike the tall, skinny Luigi who would've probably taken all that from his mum.

So from what we've gone over so far, we can see that it is likely that Mr. Mario (wether he stayed to father his children or not) is probably very similar in characteristics and lifestyle to that of Mario - except for the beat Bowser, save the Princess stuff. On thing we cannot clear-up though, is wether or not he is still alive today, as we simply haven't heard ANYTHING about either of Mario's parents since he shot-up to Gaming Stardom and Fame. What a great son, eh....! He could've at least thanked them at least once - even if it was infront of a TV Camera and not to them in-person. Maybe Mr.Mario IS the no-show parent who ran-off and left them after their birth, like I earlier suspected.... That could be why he's never thanked them! But he did thank Luigi at the end of Luigi's Mansion, but still no love for EITHER of his natural parents.
Maybe the Mario Bros. were... (dare I say it) ORFANS!!??

No matter who he is, or what he did, the Mushroom Kingdom owe him for creating 'the one' to save the Toads and the Koopas from the terror of the evil King Bowser.

Mario's been around for a nearly 20 years now.... his father must be getting on a bit - whoever he is!
Thank you Mr.Mario for a great character, and his great adventures.
Go and see your sons now, Mario must have made millions alone! ;D

When was their mother mentioned?? And I haven't played Yoshi's Island yet.
I'm sure that I heard about the stawk thing back in one of the old cartoons, but I don't think either of their parents were in that either.

And yes, i'm ok - now.
I just wanted to write about something, and I came up with this bizzare idea. Hey, it was the day before I got my AS results!

As Yoshi's Island on SNES and Game Boy Advance tells us, Mario and Luigi were brought to the world by the Stork as twins (despite Mario being older according to Super Smash Bros Melee).

Sure, they've got parents, though only their mother is ever mentioned, and she didn't even give birth to them!
