Heres what the story line is based around (remember this is only a rough):
`The tale of human scientists on a distant planet who, once again, make the mistake of experimenting on aliens and predators. A scientist foolishly hatches alien eggs to create an environment attractive to predators.`
Paul Anderson is set to direct and write to movie! (Paul Anderson directed the much hyped and very good Resident Evil)
I`ll keep you posted!
As far as AvP the film goes, NO CGI, Alien 3 just showed how bad they are, i know the ones in Alien Reserection were good, but not as good as the body suits in Aliens, (One of the best films ever i think). If the Pred dude's get made CGI, i probably wont see it, it wouldn't be the same.
The directors bit, i've no objection to this guy doing it, if done properly, it wouldn't hurt to get some consultant's in, maybe James Cameron and Ridley Scott(we are not worthy, we are not worthy). But if done properly, and god i hope it is, then it should be as ground breaking and popular as Saving Private Ryan, Jaws and Star Wars.
The only reason people think resi evil is the best game to movie conversion yet, is because he kept fans happy by keeping lots of familiar things in. Good for fans, but there was absolutely nothing in the film I hadn't seen before in either the games it was based on, or the thousands of horror/action films that came before it.
I just think a licence as big as Aliens Vs Predator should be given to someone who has experience with making a good, atmospheric horror film while remaining faithful to the comics it's based on. Anderson probably will keep comic book fans happy, but he also needs to consider fans of the film who've never read the comics the film is based on.
I also predict he'll use CGI Aliens which will kill any atmosphere he may try and build up. Remember the licker from the resi film? It looked absolutely stupid and it was mainly CGI.
P.S, for all of you who care about me, Mr. RattleSnake3, i've just got back from a two week holiday, thats why i have been quiet of recent times.
It's not filled with me with confidence of the films success, especially since the director relies heavily on special effects and flashy camera angles. He also, when directing films that are based on a different multi media source, such as resi evil, he copies allot of ideas from that source instead of thinking his own up. This will please fans, but I just think it's lazy directing.
I'd have much preferred James Cameron directing the movie, as I heard he was rumoured to at one point. I just don't think Anderson can pull of making a great sci-fi movie based on two of the biggest science fiction franchises in the movie industry.
