Miyamoto got a bit bored with his characters. Plumbers, Princesses, Lizards and Mushrooms all the time get very boring after a while. So Miyamoto decided to change his characters, after all some of them have been like this for over 15 years. Hopefully this will mean more games for the GameCube. Let’s just hope they’re good.

Mario
Mario is still dressed the same but his accent and lifestyle has changed completely! Now Mario plays the part of a controversial flute player who never plays his flute by the book! The media are infuriated by what he does, who’s heard of playing a flute with your nose?! Devilish! This opens up a huge amount of opportunities for new baddies, such as the evil media trying to destroy his prize possession flute. Also his origin has changed. Now he comes from Poland so his voice is very stern, Miyamoto claims he was quite scared when he thought up the idea. Wow! Also, along with these changes Mario boasts a new weapon! He throws the water cannon away and gets his mitts on a music box! These changes have made to fit the new Mario game set for 2004 called ‘Super Mario: Ruined Concert!’ Apparently, Mario sets up a band with some other Nintendo stars but he gets his flute stolen! The boss of the game breaks the flute and it shatters into 40 separate pieces. Mario must scour the world through 40 huge levels and when all the tasks are complete on one level, he recovers a flute piece. The more flute pieces you recover, the better moves you get for your music box. Some of the moves take 5 to 10 pieces to activate, but it’s worth it! Once you have recovered the final flute piece you must defeat the final boss with the flute in a Stars Wars-esque sword battle. Also it’s supposed to last you more than 80 hours! So each level should be huge.

Patch
A reincarnation of Peach who is now a tramp! It must be a huge culture shock for her, especially having to wear patched up trousers and other garments. The once millionaire Princess is now living on the streets, relying on Mario to pay her sandwiches in exchange for information. There is a rumour that Patch will be a playable character in Mario’s new game. Instead of having an Umbrella she has a newspaper to cover her head, this is always where she gets most of her information for Mario from as well. If you get every piece of information, she will become a secret character supposedly. Miyamoto has said there will be secret characters but he can’t reveal these until the game is close to release. Patch is said to use each of his ‘patches’ as weapons, each one having a unique ability. If so there could be some great mini games like having to hit targets. That is if there’s a multiplayer option. But so far, Patch seems like a huge possibility to be a secret character.

Frog
Sadly Toad didn’t get the best of changes. He has been changed into an Onion creature. As if being a Mushroom isn’t bad enough, an Onion!? It is confirmed that before each level, Frog is waiting, crying. He normally tells you a little bit about the boss and what he’s done, and makes you cry. It’s obvious why, he’s an Onion! Maybe it’s because in previous Mario titles, nobody cared when Toad was crying, but now Frog makes you cry, whether you want to or not. Also Miyamoto says the game is going to be the first to have the main boss cry. Many mysteries to be solved in this game. Such as does Mario still like pizza? And why is he Polish? All will be revealed (If Miyamoto’s reading this, that is).

Luigess
Luigi has changed considerably (well, a bit). He’s how a women! Well it was obvious after all the girly screams he did in Luigi’s Mansion. It’s no surprise that he’s Mario sister, is it! But this time his (or her) origin is the same. She’s Italian! Luigess doesn’t appear in Mario’s next title set for 2004. Instead Luigess has her own game. It’s also set for 2004 and is called ‘Luigess’ Beauty Parlour’. This is said to have unique gameplay where you have to dress people up, cut and style their hair and so much more. This will obviously attract the female audience more than male (Maybe, it depends how many ‘Luigi’s’ are out there!) It still isn’t confirmed that Luigess’ Beauty Parlour will make it to the UK, so far it’s only confirmed for Japan. But it’s not big loss, I’m sure that Mario’s game will keep people entertained. Still, nobody knows if this set before or after Luigi’s Mansion. If it’s before, it makes a lot of sense but if it’s after, he must have changed back! I’m sure Miyamoto will reveal all soon!

_
Bowser has gone from one kind scaly creature to another, he can now only be known as _, he doesn’t have a name. This is because he tries to hide from everything. Why? He’s a chameleon! Although many people think chameleons are comedy acts they are actually a type of creature! _ plays a big part as one of the bosses who keep coming back, it looks like he will never get past a game without resorting to his usual skulduggery, he follows you throughout your journey and attacks when you’re weak. Although hitting you with his huge tongue doesn’t seems as painful as breathing fire on you, when you’re weak it’s hard to beat him. Also near the very end he changes back into Bowser and gives you a run for your money. Lucky for him his change is only temporary. But through his change he gets his biggest part yet. Maybe he’ll appear on Luigess’ Beauty Parlour to give her a scare!

Wink
Link hasn’t made a huge change. He’s still saving the world, beating up bosses and trying to get rid of Gammon. Through a huge battle he lost his eye, hence his new name. After his outing adventures in a ship he has been deemed a pirate and wears an eye patch. He still has a black belt in fencing and some pretty huge swords. Throughout his new quest to save the world he must collect bigger and bigger and kill things. At the end of all this killing, you have to kill Gammon, the final boss! This boasts to be the MOST linear Legend of Zelda title ever. You don’t even find out how he’s going to destroy the world. Genius! Wink doesn’t even have a personality, well done Mr. Miyamoto! I’m sure mindlessly killing things will make the Legend of Welda brilliant!

Welda
Zelda has gone from Princess to having her own business, now that’s a step up the ladder! Welda is a qualified mechanic, but she decided to make swords instead. After each temple visit Welda and she will have a new sword for you to kill things with. Welda also challenges you to duels every once in a while, giving you practice. The hard thing is, she wars black, she’s covered in oil from fixing cars, and the rooms are black, so it’s hard to see her. Also when she goes after you with a welder, it’s time to give up! If you don’t she welds your head to the metal table and leaves you there. To get out of this you have to cut your hair off and it looks stupid. But if it means you see Wink getting welded to a table, it’s more than worth it. Also at one point in the game you go into a pub and fin Welda has welded everyone’s heads to the tables when she was drunk. Brilliant.

Gammon
Everyone has thought that Ganon kind of looked like a pig, so they gave him a new name and a new look! Gammon is a giant pig who tries to destroy you at the end of the game. He mainly just runs after you trying to eat you. After you’ve beaten him the entire land of Hyrule have a feast. Most of time you meet Gammon and he’s in disguise, trying to fool you. But in the cut scenes you see that’s a front as his eyes turn red, spooky! But when he’s not fooling you, he’s trying to steal the other pigs food. That evil, evil, EVIL pig! Gammon is definitely the best bad guy ever seen!

Great stuff Rickoss! Very original idea, and one that could well be a GAD winner.
