His laptop runs XP as does the main PC. My laptop uses windows 98 and works fine.
We use a TCP/IP protocol, all have the names, ISP numbers etc all set up. Today I managed to get his computer to be able to view and use files from the other computers but the others can't view his and the internet connection still doesn't work.
Anyone got any ideas as to what is wrong, where the problems could be. All suggestions appreciated.
Thanks for taking time to help.
1. Ensure that none of the machines are running a firewall - especially the laptop since you must disable the Windows XP firewall before you can get the network to work (it may be possible to allow certain IP addresses - never tried though).
2. Some hubs require that all the machines are turned off before they are plugged in to the hub. Try this:
a) Turn off all computers and the hub.
b) Unplug the computers from the hub.
c) Plug all the network cables back into the hub.
d) Turn on the hub.
e) Turn on all the computers.
If this doesn't work, I'm not sure....
