Frankly, I'm worried that it may have been dropped...
the game idea was superb, the scale seemingly unapproachable.
but mister braben failed to make the game FUN. the space battles were less than impressive, and the trading got laborious pretty quickly.
I really hope they update it though.
Remember, the last update was years ago, with todays processors and gfx cards, we should be able to have the same game with vastly improved grafix, battles, trading/space ports etc, but with the same unimaginably massive scale.
With games like starlancer and x-wing alliance (aging now I know) about, we should be able to have something very impressive if they put the effort in....
There tends to be a flurry of updates and new when a new product is released, and then nothing (I presume whilst they beaver away at their next project)...
From what I gather (though I've not visit the ELite news group of fan club???) Frontier is still going strong and David Baraben is very determined to create Elite 4... as to its final release date, I wouldnt hold your breath :)
I would suspect the latest news can be found via the Elite Fan Club or Usenet group alt.fan.elite would have the most up to date news?
(or you could always mail them directly?)
I'm suprised a sequel hasn't been released sooner, and even more suprised that the developers don't seem interested in getting the game released. Well that's what seems to be the case, with the real lack of news and everyting.
I think we need this game now, as their isn't really a great selection of games out at the moment which promise the kind of things elite can. Game developers shouldn't just let great ideas like the ones in elite pass by, especially with the lack of any origanal games out right now.
Frankly, I'm worried that it may have been dropped...
