Have we seen any fads since? Well, maybe we have, we just haven’t realised it yet. What are all the kids in the schoolyards doing now?
Well, maybe not in the schoolyards, but go into any town centre and you’ll probably see the hoodies en masse. The Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Staind, etc. etc. logos emblazoned on hundreds of youths, many of them not even in their teens. Some look like their age doesn’t even reach into double figures. Some probably too young to understand half the lyrics of the bands whose logos they wear, and lets be honest, it’s hardly rocket science anyway is it? I mean bands like System Of A Down have these strong political and anti-capitalist messages and you wonder if they’re just being turned into a fashion label. I swear some of these kids don’t even realise they’re wearing a hoodie of a band, they probably think it’s just a clever slogan. So, is Nu-Metal the latest fad? By the looks of things, yes.
Those kids who not long ago were trading family friendly Pokemon on their Game Boys now need to be ‘cool’ by wearing clothing by the latest bands to have become part of the nu-metal steamroller. Or is it the nu-metal fad? While some fads (like the YoYo example given earlier) become totally extinct, others like the Pokemon craze linger on, albeit not as potently as they were at their prime. So will any of these kids still wear the band emblazoned hoodies when the rest of their mates have passed the fad? Probably. Will they get the mickey taken out of them for still being part of yesterday’s craze? Probably. Will half of these kids ever actually buy a CD by any of the bands whose logos they strut about wearing? Who knows. All I know is that this fad won’t last forever.
o_O
Anyway, yeah I understand what you're saying about people going the other way and listening to the more mellow songs because they get 'accepted'. I mean look at Nickelback. They got 'accepted' by the people who liked the nu-metal stuff and they're huge now, despite the fact that if they hadn't of been 'accepted' many people would have dismissed them for not being heavy enough.
Anyway, I don't think you're writing crap, but it wouldn't hurt to check for spelling/mistakes before you post :D
SORRY
To clog it all up with duplicate messeges
An example of this is slipkots Corey taylor, as most people know, Slipknot is about being 'BRUTAL BRUTAL BRUTAL', '24/7'. But with is new band STONE SOUR and the sg 'bother' it is extemly mellow andas e made such a bg success with slipknot mostofhis fns will follow his lead and listen to Stone sour and gradualy get into it.
I am probably talkng a oad of bollocs at this point so tell me to shut up if u thnk so to!

Anyway, I wasn't more meaning that nu-metal as a musical genre will simply disappear, but I think it will decline in popularity when some new musical (or otherwise...) fad comes along and pulls at impressionable youngsters wallet (or purse) strings.
I understand what you're saying about it getting 'heavier' but as I see it the only reason the heavier stuff is getting more popular is because people see that this or that band is now popular and they want to be seen to be listening to something more heavy. So this goes on like a competition, people continually raising the bar. But at the end of the day is it just for the sake of it? In my view it seems that plenty of people are just listening to the more heavy material because it is what's 'in'. When another musical genre comes in, or when another fad like the YoYos I mentioned comes along the people won't have to listen to the metal to try and fit in. There will be another constant if you will, another craze that 'everyone' will want to be a part of to be doing the 'in' thing.
But when the craze subsides there will still be the 'hardcore' of the fans remaining. Just means some of the bands will have to get used to playing normal sized venues not arenas anymore...
This is basically what u are saying about the nu-metal phase ending and us all moving on to something else but i feel the whole nu-metal genre will fade and all the bands that fit into it, e.g Korn, will move on. I can tell this by example Korns new album, 'UNTOUCHABLES', most of the songs on that are heavy and i would not class them as nu-metal.
Although this s just MY opnion on this subject and a lotta people will disagree with me, i also think that a lot of people will agree with me, i heard recently on the Radio 1 rock show that the editor-in-chief of KERRANG! magazine (phil alexander) saying that bhe feels the nu-metal phase is drawing to a close.
Sorry if this contradicts nebodys veiws on the subject
