Ghoulies.
Anyone remember these films? It was about some kid that got left a big house, and they probably read some spell or something, and these creatures, called Ghoulies, started killing people. It was funny too.
It could be made into a game along the lines of Resident Evil, with the Ghoulies replacing the zombies, with the eventual goal to be gather up the pages of the spell book, it order to send them to their doom.
Alternatively, on a similar vein (though this could have been early 90's) how about Puppet Master The Game! You control the PuppetMaster, and send your puppets out to kill the bunch of kids,that have been dared to stay in spooky mansion. It would be like a strategy game, with you sending out teams of puppets, with special there special weapons, so murder the kids in the most creative way possible.
