Why? Because they tend to focus their efforts into promoting the name of the company and not the game or the console.
This isn’t always the case though.
Take Nintendo for example. They had a very successful advertising campaign for both the Nintendo Game Boy and the Game Boy Colour when they both first came out. This is due to advertising to attract a younger audience.
Well I’m probably stating the obvious there. Never the less the more advertising that is done the more likely you are to attract a huge surge of punters waving their money in front of your nose.
If only other companies followed Nintendo’s example then the gaming world would be a much more attractive place to be (Not that it isn’t already of course)
Microsoft seem to be doing well with their advertising but perhaps they should focus more on the console and it’s power instead of coming up wit intriguing slogans perhaps then they’d be more successful on a whole.
Advertising on telly is a very effective way of passing on a message to a vast audience of possible buyers.
It’s also very expensive and time consuming so perhaps that’s why developers keep the ads short but sweet.
But surely companies with a bigger budget such as Microsoft should be able to have a much more successful advertising campaign; it doesn’t always pay to splash out on advertising though.
Keeping adverts short and sweet can prove very affective at times but it isn’t always the best way to go about it.
Perhaps they money used on huge advertising campaigns should instead be used for improving certain areas of development.
Although the thought of screaming punters thrusting money into your grubby mits may sound inviting it won’t always pay of.
Although it may seem a good thing in the short run it may not seem so good in the long run.
Why you may be asking?
Because if you’re wasting money on advertising and not putting enough money into development then you’ll more than likely fall flat on your face in when it comes to opening up new possibility’s for the consoles future.
So just goes to show what’s to consider when it comes to advertising your console or game.
Without advertising you have no way of announcing your arrival or an arrival of a new game to the world, therefore you will go unnoticed and you will eventually fade away from existence.
Then again blowing huge amounts of money on advertising might not do you much good either.
So here’s a message to all games and console developers,
Choose your approach wisely!
It's not going low it's just widening the audience that it's adverts reach. Not only do we have innocent children buying Nintendo's consoles we also have dirty old men. :D
Why's it not going well? It shows that even Mario likes to get laid occasionally, even if it is with a talking mushroom.
