GonGon was at the receiving end of a safety glitch that resulted in him not being able to open his Perspex ball and escape the boiling temperatures from the Arizonian sun. His death shocked the world and started the question as to whether animal safety really is good enough.
GonGon’s widow, AiAi, is fronting the strike. We managed to get an interview with her earlier today and asked her what she wanted from the strike:
“I and everybody else who knew GonGon are incredibly upset at the sad news of his death, we are all going on strike until the new laws are passed giving animals rights to better working conditions.”
The strike is incredibly well supported too; every one of the worms in Team17’s games has put down their weapons and have all joined together to help make their jobs safer. Every worm wants to have free safety gear included in their job as many of them have been blown to pieces in the last few months after the introduction of super weapons such as the ‘Holy Hand Grenade’ and the ‘Concrete Donkey.’
“All of these fatalities could easily be stopped if adequate safety gear was included,” was a comment from one of the worms that we talked too.
Worms are not the only animals to support the strike; many thousands of tribe’s people have died after miracle-giving creatures in the game’ Black and White’ has decided to stop helping:
“My master slaps me about and feeds me rocks all the time,” said one of the creatures. “I’m not going to help out with anything until I can get some better working conditions, even if it does mean having all of these people dying around my feet.”
Other supporters of the strike are:
Echo the Dolphin; who is helping because of the many accidents he has had while being forced to repeated dive into brick walls.
Frogger; has been severely injured many times due to lorries driving too fast and the lack of barriers to stop him from falling into the river.
Donkey Kong; although he is paid millions each year, he still feels that he is unfairly treated. Most games involve him being beaten, bitten or thrown about and he does not like it.
There is much opposition to the strike though; the ‘Godly Hand’ in Black and White is the leader against this industrial action. He would not speak to us but he gave us a statement:
‘I believe that these animals are already working in fine conditions; they need to be disciplined so that games do not turn into complete chaos. If we did not give them jobs in the first place, they would most probably be on the dinner plate anyway. If they do not like what they are given then they can just go away, we can always find a replacement.’
We will bring you more on this strike and the problems it is causing as soon as we get more information.
