As newer games come out, we seem to be getting more annoyed. Each new game results in you becoming more stressed out and it won’t be long until you crack!

Games these days are becoming more and more stressful to play, not just them becoming more difficult, but more intelligent AI can really annoy us! Just because the computer can now think, we automatically think that it cheats. Is it this the truth, or are we just stupid?

A part of any game now seems to be any feature that can stress you out to the maximum, if this feature works, you think of the game as being rubbish, but you still want to play it more. Many football games are an example of this, the harder teams always seem to score at every opportunity but you can never equal this feat. When they start to beat you, you get more frustrated and try to play harder. The commentator never helps, “Oh that’s an amazing goal scored by Bangladesh and I bet the person playing the game feels like crap at the moment.” Unfortunately they score again and you get even more frustrated and this results in you causing some considerable damage to you mums glass vase on top of the TV!

The fact is, the more a game annoys you, the more you want to play it. You really get an urge to go and win the game and teach it a lesson, you forget that it isn’t real and seem to think that you have got a nice little fight on your hands. By beating the level, you feel that you have just defeated your worst enemy who has been bullying you and not allowing you to finish that game! The psychological pressure to complete the game really makes you want to go back and play it, leaving a job half done really makes you feel like a failure, but trying until the death is the manliest thing you could ever do!

You get a great feeling though when you finally complete the game and finish that long battle against the computer who has been trying to impede your progress the whole time! You have just won a great war against the computer. Now it’s time for you to try and beat it again, on the medium difficulty setting!

I would say that a game which doesn't frustrate, annoy and stress the player isn't worth playing.
Man against machine is a timeless concept - it's why we play games, for the challenge.
