Gaming tournaments happen around the globe, they are a place where the most advanced gamers go to battle. These tournaments show just what can be done when you practice at a game for a while, but the game is still just a console game. You can't take it any further than you want to, its all just restricted by what the developers have given you. It may be the best gaming ever but what if you could control your fighting character? I mean you could train this guy or girl up to be the best, a bit like the creature in Black and White.
You could train your character up by going in a battling zone and fighting against enemies. These enemies won't just be characters made up by the games designers, oh no you could personalise them by scanning in photos of your enemies. You could even battle against your mates. You character would look just like you, its just like having two lives, one inside a computer and also a real life outside video games (yes there is one!).
Games of today such as sports games allow you to design your own team so you get a certain sense of personal ownership of the game. The team which you create still may not feel like yours because even with hundreds of different faces and colour skins you still will not be able to get the people to look like your family or you mates. It just wouldn't be possible to produce that kind of data on the PS2, Gamecube or Xbox.
This character would be you, you could take you to gaming tournaments and battle against other people's clones. Prize totals would reach six figure numbers if even half the gamers on the planet decided to battle in regional tournaments. There would be thousands of tournaments held around the globe in which you must compete to advance to the next round. And when finally all the knockout rounds are finished the real iron fist tournament could be held.
In the future I'm sure the use of virtual reality will become more and more common, well couldn't it be used for the tournament? Yes? Each person would put on the special equipment and battle. The two opponents would then be placed in an environment such as a bridge over a shark invested pool. The loser? Well, that would be determined by the person who gets knocked of the stage and into oblivion. That's it, the winner progresses to the next round in the tournament and the loser goes home and recreates his character ready for next years battle.
Maybe eventually we will see something of this sort, we could even create a world outside this in which people could act in a rebellious way. Instead of all the crime that goes on in today's world it could happen in the virtual world. The Internet's a place where people from around the globe come to meet and socialise and also do business. So why not have a virtual device in which you could step into a world away from the troubles of life. You could meet other people's fighting creations and hurt each other without actually feeling the real pain. It's just taking the realism that bit further.
Weird? Yes, :) But this would be amazing, *carries on dreaming*........
Thanks for reading and thinking I'm a little crazy :D
Ah Well,
See Ya ;-)

Sorry if I lost it towards the end of that reply! :-D
Oh, and POP to the TOP!
As you said, weird
Unfortunately, I can never see your idea coming to fruition. Basically because there is still a stigma attached to games in some circles that seems to prevent in-game personalisation (is that even a word?) occuring. For example, Rare's face mapping feature was ditched because of the associations that characters 'becoming' the player gave rise to. I would like to see it happen, and it is certainly plausibe that, in time, it could, but not for the forseeable future.
Well done Kerang great post
