Ever since the days of the MegaDrive and the bulky GameGear I have longed for the chance to be able to pick up a SEGA pad and KNOW that my latest purchase in a games console has been money very well spent.
This is something I experienced when I picked up my Nintendo GameCube in March, but after seeing the lack of what the Saturn could really do, I haven't played on a SEGA console for AGES now!

But today that all ended.
My wait is over.
SEGA's last stab in the Console Market arrived at my front door at 8:30 this very morning - yes, it was the Dreamcast!

I was never really a fan of this very console when it ws first released.
That was mainly due to the fact that I was a reasonabley happy Ninty saving-up for all those over-priced games, and claiming a SEGA console to be my own still didn't seem right.
But now that's changed, and I have grown up and come to realise that this doesn't matter anymore! And that there are actually quite a few Dreamcast titles out there that you simply cannot find on anyother format.
And even if Crazy Taxi and co. can be found on the PS2 and GameCube, there's still nothing quite like the originals.

The main reason I have come to choose this as my latest console of choice is down to the fact that there are 2 games series' that you cannot currently find on any other format - Sonic Adventure and Shenmue.
Now I know that SA 2's available on the GameCube and that no.1's out there next year, and that Shenmue 2 and possibly a third instalment will soon appear on the X-Box, but again - the Dreamcast is their home!
Sonic belongs with SEGA only - it just doesn't feel right seeing him on a rival company's product. The same applies to Shenmue. Even though Ryo may not be the company's mascot or anything, a SEGA games goes best with a SEGA machine.

So, back to my new found console of joy....
So far, I only have a total of 3 games, and a Demo Disc.
But I can guarrentee you, there are many more that still remain on my Dreamcast Shopping List. Many more!

Everbody knows about Shenmue, and it was all that talk and praise for this RPG that grabbed my attention in the first place. I found-out more and more and more untill I realised that I MUST have this game!
And now that I have it - I can hardly say that i'm dissapointed!
It's beaten my first expectations by miles - and I can't wait to see what else there is as Ryo progress onwards in search of answers.
The only bad point I have to make about this game is that you have to use to D-pad to move around rather than the Analogue Stick. But aside from that factor, the rest of the controls work like a treat.
Sadly for me though, Disc 1 of this game is a little damaged, so i'll have to send it back for a replacemt. :(
£10.99 very well spent though! :D

As for Crazy Taxi, this has to be my instant favourite right now.
The speed, madness, and fun of it all - aswell as the rockin' sound track!
All that's missing is a 2-player mode - like the one from the cheap immitation that is TheSimpsons' Road Rage.
I've been playing this game for hours, and haven't reached boredom yet!
The only real grumble I have about this game is how slow it can be to turn the Taxi from a stand-still, and that there are very few tracks in the brilliant soundtrack.

Untill I saw Project Gotham Racing on the X-Box, I never really had a clue as to what MSR was really about. And even though i'd heard so much about the Dreamcast original, I still didn't know untill I actually played it.
What I have found out is that this beats Gran Turismo for me anyway!
It takes standard, top-quality racing of the likes of GT, and mixes in a bit of excitement and enthusiasm, mainly thanks to the Kudos points.
For a GAD Prize, I don't think I could've chosen anyting better - well, not from the same genre anyway!

3 games may not be a lot, but they keep me more than happy as I face a summer of boredom with a lack of new GameCube releases.
With the addittion of a Demo Disc to add to this list, I can see that I won't be putting this away with my Mega Drive and GameGear anytime soon within the next 18 months.
To me, this really has been £49.99 well spent on a 3 year old box of joy that SEGA have given us to say sign-off with from the Console Wars.

It may have lost-out to the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, but it's still a winner in my game-loving eyes.
Certainly a Dream come true! :)

Is that SEGA Rally 2?? I've seen that for £6.99.
I've seen Space Channel 5, but it doesn't look like my kinda game.
I may get Resi Evil, but not if it's coming to the Cube. :)
And I definitley WILL get JSR.

I've seen Rez too, but I don't really see what's so good about it.
I'm just happy to stick with the Starfox games for that style.

I also want that RPG Grandia 2 too, and I probably will get SEGA GT as i'm really getting into racing games right now....

I'll need a wheel too.
Can anyone reccomend me a decent wheel for the 'cast??
I'm sure i'll be able to find one somewhere.

Get Jet Set Radio, probably the best game on the cast. I wouldn't bother with Sega GT though it sucks the big one, you'd be better off going for Sega Rally.

Oh and don't forget Space Channel 5, Soul Calibur and Resi Evil: Code Veronica

I don't know if you've played it, but REZ is a fantastic game - something different and unique. (A vibration pak is essential.)

Glad to hear you are enjoying your console :)

For the winning cans you can take them to the Tomato Convinience stores and draw raffles, if you win you get a toy but remember to keep all of your toys becuase in Shenmue 2 you will need to pawn them off in order to make money. Buy as many toys as you can from the machines and try and get a collection, in Shenmue 2 a collection of Virtua Fighter characters can fetch up to $750 which is a lot. I don't want to give too much away about Shenmue 2 but at the beginning of the game spend all of your money on lighters, zippers and toys becuase trust me *DONT* save your money. Train hard in Shenmue 1 becuase all of your moves will be carried over into Shenmue 2 and in Shenmue 2 it is harder to find a sparring area (only 1) and you can't train on your own like in Shenmue 1.

Don't stop at those games, pick up:

Virtua Tennis (awesome game)
Virtua Tennis 2
Ultimate Fighting Championship (awesome game)
Skies of Arcadia
Crazi Taxi 2
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver (nails the psone version)
Soul Calibur

All of those games are brilliant and I am sure there are more that I haven't come accross yet! As for Shenmue's 1+2 they are the greatest games ever, Shenmue 1 starts off slow on Disc 1 and a bit of Disc 2 but the final Disc is worth getting a Dreamcast alone just to play! The story line is brilliany and the QTE's are even better, although Disc 1 is slow it is just setting the scene, prepared to be blown away (especially with Shenmue 2)! Hope you enjoy playing!

Thanks.
I'll get send-back Shenmue tommorow to get a replacement.
And order Sonic Adventure too.

Can you still play any games on-line??
Just that I heard loads of servers have gone down, and I was wondering if I still might have a chance at playing the DC on-line?

And in Shenmue earlierI brought a drinks can and I won something! :D
It said i'd won a Figurine or something on it, and that i'd have to go on-line to get it.
What's the deal with that??
Would it be the real deal or just some model you can view on-line?

You can use the "Crazy Reverse Dash" to turn around quickly. Perform a Crazy Dash then hit Reverse and turn.
Braking whilst pressing Drive & Reverse whilst stopping allows you to turn the cab in the direction you want to go next.

Oh, and good choice of console. Hope you enjoy it. :)
Shenmue I & II rule.
