Hi,
I put this to you. If the development cost and production cost of making a game is so much that it makes a £40 game a £40 game. Then why doesn't it decrease over time as the company claws back it's money?

If you hadn't noticed - the prices do actually reduce over time.

A game will cost £ 40.00 this week and will be on sale for 30 - 35 in a few months.
