Which side of the digital divide do you live on? A lot of it depends on where you live, and how much money you can afford to spend.

Broadband.
You can only get this if you live in area served by broadband. Live out side, and there's nothing but a standard phone line. If you can get, can you afford it. The upgrade, the monthly payments, and then there will be service specific charges for things like XBox Live and Sony On-Line.

Wireless Broadband,
Broadband speed via wireless access. This only works provided you are within range of a Wireless broadband mast - and have line of sight.

Digital tv.
I met 2 people over the weekend that thought, you could just plug in and play. Digital tv through an aerial is not that easy. Only 60% of the country can get a good enough signal. Cable tv networks have run out of money, so they wont be expanding much further, and in any case they are only interested in highly populated area's. Digital satellite is the only system that works nation wide. With the exception of people who are not allowed to put up a dish.

Well, I've been on BT (now O²), One2One (now T-Mobile, a very gay name), Vodafone and Orange (who are owned by Vodafone...). I can honestly say that Orange are far and away the best network for both coverage and service. The only signal spots I've ever found with orange is near windsor castle (where they have a signal jammer) and in Brookwood, which is a nothing village in the middle of nowhere.

O yes. Mobile phone's... here we go then, a taste of what it's like to live in my area. Vodaphone 1-2-1, and BT to a lesser extent do work here, but you can only rely on the signal if you go out side and use them. Indoors, the signal is not strong enough. The only network that works really well is Orange. I can even use it indoors!
Is it true, that 3G mobile's require a 3G mast? If this is the case, all those thousands (and there are thousands) of existing mobile masts will need a 3G upgrade. That will take years! I assume that if you live out of range of a 3G mast, you wont be able to use your 3G mobile. To start with 3G mobile's will be contract only. This is likely to be at least £40 per month. Guess they have to pay for all those 3G mast upgrades some how!
